HPE HOD – Welcome

There have been some changes in the HPE Faculties for 2025.  Firstly, my HPE Head of Department role will spread across both campuses.  Hence, I will overlook the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 12.  This will include junior subjects of HPE and senior subjects including PE, Health, Outdoor Recreation, Sport and Recreation and Fitness Cert III.  Additionally, the new Sports Co-ordinator – Mr Adam Hoy – will work across both campuses with assistance from a teacher aide at each campus.

We have some other staffing changes with Mr Botha moving from the Pomona campus to facilitate our Outdoor Education programs as he replaced Mr Tait, who has moved interstate for a different career pathway.  We also welcome back Mr Tomba, who has been working away for the last few years.

There have been some changes in the Education Queensland space that impact many subjects, particularly HPE and Sport, and these include our specific ‘high risk’ permissions.  We please ask all parents to get these links completed as soon as possible so we can engage your child in activities that we see appropriate in our curriculum.  Without your permission, your child will be exempt from all ‘high risk’ activities.  You have probably received many emails (SchoolZine) already about this.

In our junior curriculum, we will spend this year planning for the new version 9.0 of the Australian curriculum so we can implement in 2026.  In our senior curriculum, we welcome back senior PE to challenge our ATAR bound students.

Sport will always continue to be front and centre within our department with multiple North District trials occurring in term 1.  The sport calendars have been posted on our website and around the school grounds.  We encourage all students and parents to monitor these trials as some sports have district trials and some go directly to regional level.  Additionally, staff are busy filling teams for the many inter-school sport competitions that spread across the year.  Please assist my busy staff by getting permission forms back asap and payments made to the Finance Department by the due date so students don’t miss out on the many opportunities on offer.

I am sure that it will be another great year in our department.

If you have any questions about the HPE Department at the Cooroy and Pomona campuses, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sports Coordinator Welcome

To the entire Noosa District School Community, hello and thank you for such a warm welcome! My name is Adam Hoy, and I am the Sport Coordinator for Noosa District SHS for 2025. Similar to the new structure for subject HOD’s my role encompasses all students through grades 7-12 over both Pomona and Cooroy campuses. I agreed to the Sport Co. position late last year after spending the past nine years at James Nash SHS and look forward to what we can achieve in the Sport space throughout 2025!

The Swimming Carnival is already upon us! Scheduled for Friday of Week 3, it will be the first time we have attempted a split school carnival. Years 10-12 will swim throughout Periods 1 and 2 while years 7-9 will compete during periods 3 and 4.  A reminder that all students must have their High-Risk permission form signed prior to the carnival in order to enter the pool complex.

The House Captains and Leaders have been filming promo videos, creating posters and practicing war cries in an attempt to gain an early edge in the standings. I can’t wait to see the students and staff out in numbers supporting their respective School House in what is the first of many Interschool events for 2025!

District & Regional Sport Trials begin in Week 3 with permission and information forms already available for collection from the Cooroy HPE staffroom and the office at Pomona. The first round of sports include; softball, rugby league, netball, volleyball, football (soccer), rugby 7’s, water polo and AFL.

Trials come thick and fast throughout Term 1 so teamwork is crucial to ensure our students have the opportunity to participate in their sport/s of choice. We also have school team competitions in volleyball, rugby league and football in the opening weeks of term. Our Open Boys Football team kicks off the year against Good Samaritan on Wednesday night in Round 1 of  the Sunshine Coast Schools Soccer competition.

Exciting Start to the Certificate II in Leather Production at Noosa District SHS!

We are thrilled to announce that a group of talented Year 12 students at Noosa District SHS have enrolled in the Certificate II in Leather Production course for 2025! This year, every Tuesday, these students will embark on a hands-on journey into the world of leather crafting, guided by the expert trainers at Tactile Learning.

Their first session on February 3rd kicked off with an exciting project—creating their very own custom wallets! This project is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see how the students apply their creativity and develop their craftsmanship throughout the year.

This course offers the students an incredible opportunity to learn practical skills, enhance their creativity, and gain valuable experience in the art of leather production. We are excited to watch their progress as they continue to develop their skills and creativity.

Stay tuned for more updates on their journey as they craft, create, and grow throughout the year!
