Junior Secondary Campus Context …
Welcome to 2025 at Pomona Junior Secondary Campus!
We are thrilled to kick off an exciting new year at Pomona with just under 300 enthusiastic Year 7 and 8 students embarking on their learning journeys. Our one-of-a-kind, Junior Secondary campus is dedicated to creating a personalised environment for Years 7-8 that ensures the best possible start to Secondary schooling and this year we celebrate our 10th anniversary.
Thanks to our comprehensive FLYING induction program which ran for the first week, students have quickly adjusted to the structured and supportive routines of school life.
Throughout the induction, students have explored essential school processes, policies, and key topics like bullying and cyber safety. They also engaged in team-building activities and a dynamic Rock and Water session led by Mr. Fuller, our Guidance Officer, which encouraged confidence, self-reflection, and equipped students with practical strategies for handling real-life challenges. In addition, students were introduced to organisational skills, digital setup tips, and the evidence-based Berry Street Education Model. Key lessons from this induction program have been emailed home, and your student's Berry Street diary remains a valuable resource for important information and learning strategies.
Our induction program emphasises the importance of effort and active participation. Students who take ownership of their learning will uncover endless opportunities and gain the FLYING start they need for high school success.
The FLYING Philosophy.
Our Junior Secondary philosophy FLYING, stand for Fun, Limitless, Inquiry, Innovation, Nurturing, and Genuine, and forms the foundation of the Pomona experience. We embody these principles daily and they are reinforced through our weekly wellbeing FLYING lessons delivered by home group teachers.
Year 7 Day Camp at Mimburi
Our new Year 7 students had a fantastic day at the beautiful Mimburi campus in Belli Park, engaging in team-building games, orienteering, and archery. Despite the humid weather, their smiling faces and enthusiastic feedback showed just how much they enjoyed the experience. We are very privileged to able to call Mimburi our third campus. Very few schools can provide their students access to an outdoor education campus with camp facilities, orienteering course, archery range, bush kitchen and flexible learning area.
Building a Strong School-Home Partnership
We value the strong partnership between families and the school. It was wonderful to meet many Year 7 parents at our Parent Lounge on the first day of school. We invite you to join us for the Parent-Teacher Meet and Greet on Tuesday, February 11. This is a great opportunity to connect with your child’s teachers and gain valuable insights into their Junior Secondary experience. If you're unable to attend, we encourage you to reach out via email.
Stay connected by visiting the school website, following us on Facebook and Instagram, and if you haven’t already signed up for QParents, please do so, and you will have a wealth of information about your child at your fingertips.
We’re looking forward to a fantastic year ahead with our amazing Junior Secondary students and families.
Kind regards,
Josh Cleary
