Junior Secondary Campus Context …

A Focus on Quality Teaching and Learning…

At Noosa District SHS’s Pomona Campus, we don’t just educate, we inspire. Our Junior Secondary students are thriving in an environment that prioritises innovation, student success, and a supportive learning culture.

Congratulations to our Year 7 students for their dedication to the National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) during Weeks 8 and 9. Their enthusiasm, dedication and focus during this time reflect the seamless transition they have made into our vibrant campus community. The annual NAPLAN tests give students an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy. The school will receive student results early in Semester 2 which will provide valuable insights that drive our data-informed, personalised teaching approach.

As we near the end of a busy yet rewarding term, our students are demonstrating resilience and commitment in their assessments across various subjects. Our unique approach to education ensures that every student is supported through tailored learning experiences, empowering them to achieve their best.

Junior Secondary Campus’ FLYING Philosophy…

Pomona Campus is built on values that go beyond the classroom. A significant amount of learning has been done through our term 1 FLYING program to communicate clear expectations to all students about what it looks like, sounds like and feels like to embrace our school values of “Be Responsible”, “Be Respectful” and “Be an Active Learner” as well as our Junior Secondary Philosophy of FLYING. All students are reminded, in particular, about the way they speak to one another, behave towards one another and ensuring that they are owning this each and every day. While there will always be differences of opinion, we can all be courteous and respectful. Through our calm, positive, and intentional behaviours we can all ensure that everyone looks forward to their learning and enjoys their time at school.

Through our FLYING+ projects, students engage in innovative learning experiences that extend beyond traditional academics, fostering creativity, leadership, and community engagement. Every student is encouraged to take ownership of their growth, ensuring that our school is not just a place of education, but a hub of inspiration and personal development.

It is our shared investment in these core school values, our FLYING philosophy, our students’ excellent learning, innovative FLYING + projects, that ensure our schools reputation value adds with the wider community.  By positively contributing to these perceptions, by celebrating student individual successes, we can create future opportunities for our students.  As a school we regularly recognise and thank all those students that make an ongoing positive contribution to the school community through our FLYING awards as well as those students excelling in Academic, Sporting Cultural and Civic pursuits throughout the term. We are all incredibly proud of these students and all those who continue to make the most of their learning opportunities.

What’s been happening at the Junior Secondary Campus ….

At our Pomona campus, learning and connecting through our diverse range of lunchtime clubs, co-curricular programs and leadership opportunities ensure that every student can find and pursue their passion.

Our Campus Life schedule has been provided to students and our popular lunchtime clubs and activities are well underway.  These are a great opportunity for students to engage in some interesting learning, have some fun during their breaks, and perhaps meet students that aren’t in their normal classes.

The school gym is getting closer and closer to being finalised in our state-of-the-art hall, which will allow students to access this facility and open up further opportunities for students during class and at lunch time.

A huge congratulations to our Student Leaders who received their badges at our recent assembly, and who have begun making their mark under the guidance of Mr Gordon and Mr Tomba.

It was fantastic to see staff and students involved in the ‘Shave For a Cure’ initiative and raise significant funds for the Leukemia Foundation. Congratulations to all of the staff and students who participated in raising funds for such an important cause.

Kind regards,
