Principal’s Perspective

Stacy_Wilmore.jpg
Dear Parents, students and community
Wunya.png

in the language of the Gubbi Gubbi people WUNYA NGULUM – which means ‘welcome everyone’, it is my privilege to share our Week 5 Newsletter in what has been an amazing term so far at Noosa High.

National Reconciliation week is from 27th May – 3rd June and this is an important time for all Australians and to reflect on their contribution to an inclusive community that connects and learns every day on Gubbi Gubbi country.

The Gubbi Gubbi people took their name from the pale honey gathered from the Eucalypts in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland area. The traditional lands of the Gubbi Gubbi people stretch from the northern banks of the North Pine River in the south; to Burrum River near Maryborough in the North; and to the Connondale Ranges in the West. Their traditional lands include Redcliffe, Bribie Island, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Maryborough, Gympie, Caboolture and Petrie.

Our school is proudly celebrating and sharing language of the Gubbi Gubbi people in our school environment through signage that has been developed and I am proud to share some of these in our newsletter and look forward to sharing these with you in future newsletters.

Halfway point – celebrations

Well done to all students who have recently reflected on progress in Planning for Excellence sessions and our Year 11 students who have completed their exam block.

I would like to congratulate the high standard of active learning in classrooms. Progress and improvement is a daily culmination of effort and growth, and I encourage all parents and caregivers to consider the following 5 questions to ask their children in order to create an opportunity for informative conversations about learning ….

  1. What did you learn today?
  2. How did you go?
  3. What did you do if you didn’t understand?
  4. How can you improve on your learning?
  5. What are youmost proud of?

Sporting success

Over the last 5 weeks we have celebrated our cross-country events at both campuses, district cross country at Mimburi campus and gala days and competitions for many of our sporting teams.  The dedication of our athletes and teams has been inspiring and it is always a proud moment to see the sportsmanship on display from our students. Well done to all students and staff involved.

Junior Secondary Showcase

Our Junior Secondary Campus provides the perfect environment for students to commence their Junior Secondary journey with our first-class facilities, bespoke campus and innovative programs purpose built for Year 7 and 8 students.  The recent completion of our 13.5Million hall is an exciting addition to what is already an amazing place for students to grow and learn.

Our outstanding teachers know that supporting students to have a flying start to secondary schooling is central to the success of students in their further education and future. This means positive relationships, highly engaging curriculum programs and classroom practices that focus on academic achievement and positive wellbeing are central to all we do. Our range of Junior Secondary excellence programs also ensure our students are empowered in their leaning and pathways.  These include our Summit program for Academic Excellence, Sports Academy, Arts Academy and Leadership program that students are encouraged to apply for. Further extension and enrichment programs are offered through our FLYING+ classes that empowers student choice in project-based learning.

Our Junior Secondary Showcase will celebrate all that is great about Junior secondary at NDSHS and more. We welcome existing families and all of our Year 4, 5 and 6 prospective families to come along, meet our wonderful staff and see for yourself.

Junior Secondary Showcase Tuesday May 27th – 3.30pm. Summit Road Pomona

Parents and community are always welcome at either of our Noosa High Campuses. Please keep an eye out for our Principals tours or contact the admin to book a time.
