Junior Secondary Campus Context …
A Unique Place to Learn, Grow and Fly
At Noosa District SHS's Junior Secondary Campus, we’re proud to provide a one-of-a-kind educational environment where every student is known, valued and challenged to do their best. The first half of 2025 has flown by, and we’re excited to share some highlights from our vibrant Pomona campus.
Semester 1 school reports were sent home at the end of Week 1, offering students and families a clear picture of progress so far this year. The results are certainly something to celebrate:
- 91% of students achieved a C or better in their academic subjects
- 55% achieved an A or B
- 94% reached a C or above for behaviour, and
- 93% did the same for effort
These results reflect the strength of our learning culture and the commitment our students show every day to being responsible, respectful and active learners. In their FLYING lessons, students are now using their reports to set personal learning goals for Semester 2.
Every Day Counts
As we enter the second half of the year, we’re reinforcing the importance of attendance. Attendance is more than just being present, it’s about making the most of every learning opportunity. Did you know a student with 90% attendance misses:
- 1 day every fortnight
- 1 week every term
- 4 weeks every year
That’s why we’re encouraging students to get organised: use their assessment planners, set reminders, and communicate early about due dates.
Sitting down with your child to look over their upcoming assessments is a great way to stay connected and support success.
Year 8 Gearing Up for the Next Big Step
It may feel like they only just started high school, but our Year 8 students are already beginning the exciting transition to our Cooroy Campus in 2026. Over the coming weeks, they’ll explore subject choices, visit the senior campus, and connect with students who’ve already made the move.
One of the highlights is our Week 0 Transition Week, where Year 8 students will spend time at the Cooroy Campus following their Year 9 timetable, getting a feel for what lies ahead and building confidence for the journey.
FLYING into New Opportunities
With new timetables in hand, students have now launched into their Semester 2 electives exploring subjects like Drama, Music, Visual Art, Design, and more. Thursday’s FLYING+ classes are another favourite, offering hands-on, creative programs that tap into general capabilities like problem-solving, critical thinking and collaboration.
Our FLYING philosophy doesn’t just apply to current students — it’s also something we proudly introduce to our future learners. Last term, while our Year 7s and 8s were winning in their house colours at the Athletics Carnival on the Cooroy Campus, our Pomona campus hosted Year 6 students for a high energy transition day. With exciting science experiments, tasty cooking lessons, and practical workshops, these students got a real taste of life at NDSHS and they had a great time. We can’t wait to welcome them back later in Term 4.
Subject Expo – Save the Date
To support the transition to Year 9, our Subject Information Expo will be held on Tuesday 29 July at the Cooroy Campus. We strongly encourage all Year 8 families to come along, speak with teachers, explore subject offerings, and hear tips on navigating the move to senior schooling. There will be a Year 8 into 9 parent and student information session beginning at 4:30pm for interested families. Subject Selection Forms will follow shortly after the event, with students completing these with support from their FLYING teachers.
Thank You for a Great Start to Term 3
Term 3 is off to a flying start thanks to the incredible efforts of our students, the support of families, and the dedication of our staff. Together, we’re creating a campus culture where students thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
We are proud to offer a junior secondary experience like no other, one that’s built on care, high expectations and the belief that every student can succeed.
Kind regards,
Josh Cleary
