Dear Parents, students and community
Welcome to our final newsletter of what has been a tremendous term at Noosa High. We have so much to be proud of at our wonderful school and it has been inspiring watching our students shine both inside the classroom and out this term.
Celebrating Success – Great start from our 2025 Senior Leaders and student leadership body
I know our student leaders have been officially introduced but I would like to congratulate and thank this great group of students for the fantastic start to the school year with significant contribution to the school. This has been particularly evident in the active role our student leaders have taken in events over the term at both campuses and the difference this has made. Well done to everyone involved - we couldn’t be prouder and our school student body is in great hands.
Our 2024 – 2027 Strategic Plan
As you are aware, we are in the second year of our 2024 – 2027 Strategic Plan that is building on the momentum of our school and secure our future direction.
Our Strategic Plan is focussed on 3 key Priorities across 4 years:
- Achieve excellence in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning
- Achieve meaningful learning and growth for every student
- Advance to our desired culture
Our 2025 Annual Improvement Plan is the work for this year towards our strategic goals and our staff are well on the way in this work. Our 2025 Improvement priorities include:
- Improving the proportion of A/B results across the school
- Maximising student success through active engagement
Over this term, as part of the explicit improvement agenda, we have been focussed on the following aspects:
- Quality Curriculum and Pre-moderation practices – this ensures clarity of the curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment practices to support student success against the Australian Curriculum for Years 7-10 and the Queensland Curriculum for Years 11-12. Our Maths and English teams have commenced the implementation of Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum and our HPE and Science teams have commenced active planning for implementation in 2026. All faculties are working on increasing the proportion of A/B results with students through ensuring students have a shared understanding of assessment and marking guide requirements and ongoing feedback against the marking guide is provided. All faculties are providing assessment response exemplars to students at the A and C standard to support students.
- Positive Behaviour for Learning (Respectful, Responsible, Active Learners) - students benefit from predictable environments supported by consistent practices in the classroom and non-classroom settings. This term we have focussed on the explicit teaching of schoolwide expectations, classroom routines and procedures and appropriate behaviours in both classroom and non-classroom settings. Students are doing an excellent job in demonstrating our behaviour expectations and this is reflected in our calm and positive learning environments – well done staff and students.
- Attendance – Attendance at school is explicitly linked to success. Over the term we have been reviewing our school attendance response and continuing to ensure that students are supported to maximise their learning days. Parents as partners in this is essential and we thank parents for your support in this area.
- Line of sight to learning – Using the 5 Questions for students to support intentional instructional practices through Learning Walks and Talks.
Next term we look forward to using progress data of students to continue to support the success of every student.
NAPLAN
Well done to all of our Year 7 and 9 students who have recently completed NAPLAN. This will provide important information on how students are progressing and recognise strengths and opportunities for students. We look forward to sharing and celebrating these results when they arrive.
TJ Ryan Memorial Scholarship – Merit winner
Well done to 2024 School Captain and Year 12 Dux recipient Trishali Lal in being recognised in the TJ Memorial award winners for 2024. The TJ Ryan Memorial Medal and Scholarships are awarded each year to support Queensland students who show outstanding leadership in their school and community, and achieve academic excellence in Year 12. Trishali is one of the elite 35 awardees across the state and we congratulate her on this achievement.
Formal Uniform change to first day of the week
As a result of our recent uniform survey feedback, we are moving formal uniform day from Tuesday to the first day of the week. This will generally be Mondays unless there is a public holiday. We will also move our whole of campus parades to Mondays in order to support this routine. I thank you for your support of this small adjustment.
On behalf of our entire school community, I would like to thank you for your support, partnership and commitment to our students this term
Stay connected by visiting the school website, following us on Facebook and Instagram, and if you haven’t already signed up for QParents, please do so, and you will have a wealth of information about your child at your fingertips.
Enjoy the great stories in this newsletter

Junior Secondary Campus Context …
A Focus on Quality Teaching and Learning…
At Noosa District SHS’s Pomona Campus, we don’t just educate, we inspire. Our Junior Secondary students are thriving in an environment that prioritises innovation, student success, and a supportive learning culture.
Congratulations to our Year 7 students for their dedication to the National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) during Weeks 8 and 9. Their enthusiasm, dedication and focus during this time reflect the seamless transition they have made into our vibrant campus community. The annual NAPLAN tests give students an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy. The school will receive student results early in Semester 2 which will provide valuable insights that drive our data-informed, personalised teaching approach.
As we near the end of a busy yet rewarding term, our students are demonstrating resilience and commitment in their assessments across various subjects. Our unique approach to education ensures that every student is supported through tailored learning experiences, empowering them to achieve their best.
Junior Secondary Campus’ FLYING Philosophy…
Pomona Campus is built on values that go beyond the classroom. A significant amount of learning has been done through our term 1 FLYING program to communicate clear expectations to all students about what it looks like, sounds like and feels like to embrace our school values of “Be Responsible”, “Be Respectful” and “Be an Active Learner” as well as our Junior Secondary Philosophy of FLYING. All students are reminded, in particular, about the way they speak to one another, behave towards one another and ensuring that they are owning this each and every day. While there will always be differences of opinion, we can all be courteous and respectful. Through our calm, positive, and intentional behaviours we can all ensure that everyone looks forward to their learning and enjoys their time at school.
Through our FLYING+ projects, students engage in innovative learning experiences that extend beyond traditional academics, fostering creativity, leadership, and community engagement. Every student is encouraged to take ownership of their growth, ensuring that our school is not just a place of education, but a hub of inspiration and personal development.
It is our shared investment in these core school values, our FLYING philosophy, our students’ excellent learning, innovative FLYING + projects, that ensure our schools reputation value adds with the wider community. By positively contributing to these perceptions, by celebrating student individual successes, we can create future opportunities for our students. As a school we regularly recognise and thank all those students that make an ongoing positive contribution to the school community through our FLYING awards as well as those students excelling in Academic, Sporting Cultural and Civic pursuits throughout the term. We are all incredibly proud of these students and all those who continue to make the most of their learning opportunities.
What’s been happening at the Junior Secondary Campus ….
At our Pomona campus, learning and connecting through our diverse range of lunchtime clubs, co-curricular programs and leadership opportunities ensure that every student can find and pursue their passion.
Our Campus Life schedule has been provided to students and our popular lunchtime clubs and activities are well underway. These are a great opportunity for students to engage in some interesting learning, have some fun during their breaks, and perhaps meet students that aren’t in their normal classes.
The school gym is getting closer and closer to being finalised in our state-of-the-art hall, which will allow students to access this facility and open up further opportunities for students during class and at lunch time.
A huge congratulations to our Student Leaders who received their badges at our recent assembly, and who have begun making their mark under the guidance of Mr Gordon and Mr Tomba.
It was fantastic to see staff and students involved in the ‘Shave For a Cure’ initiative and raise significant funds for the Leukemia Foundation. Congratulations to all of the staff and students who participated in raising funds for such an important cause.
Kind regards,
Josh Cleary

Year 12 Report
Term 1 Reflection and Looking Ahead: A Shift Toward Goals
As we wrap up Term 1, it's important to acknowledge the noticeable shift in focus towards long-term goals and life beyond school. Year 12 is not only about academic success but also about preparing for the future, setting clear goals, and taking proactive steps towards achieving them.
A key reminder for students: assessments throughout Year 12 are spread across all terms. Success requires careful time management and self-discipline to make the most of each opportunity. It's essential to stay organized, ensuring that each assessment is approached with the focus and preparation it deserves. Additionally, there is NO block exam this term, so students should remain consistent in their efforts.
Regular attendance remains crucial, with a goal of maintaining at least 90% throughout the year to maximize learning and ensure participation in key end-of-year events, including the formal.
As we celebrate the end of Term 1, let’s remember this marks the final first term in your schooling life—take pride in what you’ve accomplished and continue to push forward!
Michelle Budd
Senior Assessment Block
As the term comes to an end students will be completing many exams and assignments. A short exam block has been created in week 10 to accommodate for the loss of school days due to cyclone Alfred and the need for some subjects to have exams with a length of 2 hours or more.
Normal classes will continue to run for all subjects in week 10. Students who have an exam will complete this in H block and then go to normal classes for the remainder of the day. Students who do not have an exam will attend all lessons for all days in week 10.
The exam timetable was emailed to parents and students at the end of week 7.
Year 11 Report
Greetings to our Year 11 cohort and families! We are in the final stretch of what has been a busy but very productive term. The class of 2026 have been working diligently to meet assessment deadlines and must be commended on how they’ve stepped up to meet the demands of a senior course of study. There is no doubt that the pressures of Year 11 are greater than those of Year 10, but our students have done themselves proud so far. Keep up the good work as we head towards Term 2.
Congratulations to those Year 11s who have secured traineeships, school based apprenticeships or full-time apprenticeships, of which there are many. Our Industry Liaison Officer Tara works tirelessly to build networks in and around our local community, and students at Noosa District State High School benefit from her many hours of work. Thanks Tara! We also have students experiencing USC’s Headstart program, where they complete first year University subjects while still at school. Our Guidance Officer Mr Quinn has overseen this program with great results. Thanks Mr Quinn!
Senior jackets have been ordered and should be here early to mid-Term 2. Please ensure your son or daughter is dressed in appropriate school uniform (particularly jumpers) while we wait for senior jackets to arrive. Our school musical rehearsals are full steam ahead, and many of our talented Year 11s will soon grace the stage for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Ms Lyle and Ms Harris are again producing and directing this brilliant show and devote hours of work outside of school to our students. Thanks Ms Lyle and Ms Harris!
Have a great Easter break and stay safe. See you in Term 2!

Year 10 Report
As the new Year 10 Co-Ordinator, I'm really impressed with the start our students have made to 2025. It has been fantastic seeing so many smiling faces and productive classrooms around the school. On Friday the 14th of March, Year 10 students attended a future careers expo at UniSC. Firstly, I would like to congratulate the students on their maturity and behaviour during the excursion, portraying an excellent image of what is expected of Noosa District State High School students. Secondly, a huge thank you to all the staff that attended and assisted the students during the day. The future careers expo gave students an insight into possible careers and possibilities for their upcoming work experience in the last week of term two.
Speaking of work experience, our Year 10s should have commenced searching for opportunities of work. A big thanks to Tara Blair, our Vocational Education Officer for her hard work in leading the work experience program and organising the UniSC excursion. Students and parents have received all the information required in regards to their students' work experience. Please ensure these documents are returned at the earliest convenience. Students who are finding it difficult to find a placement can contact Tara Blair who will happily assist in finding students their ideal experience. Her email is tpitt46@eq.edu.au – please feel free to contact Tara directly with any questions you may have.
As we head towards the colder months, students and parents are reminded of our school dress code – students must wear a school jumper. Undershirts, and non-school jumpers, hoodies and jackets will be confiscated if seen and kept in T11 for collection at 2:45. Our school uniform shop has plenty of school jumpers and trousers for sale to keep warm in the colder months. Items can be ordered online or bought directly from the uniform shop during operating hours. Congratulations to our students on a great term one, keep up the good work! A huge thank you to all students and staff who have made me feel welcome as Year Level Co-Ordinator.

Year 9 Report
As we approach the conclusion of Term 1, it's an ideal moment to pause and celebrate the achievements and progress of our Year 9 students at Cooroy campus. This term has been a whirlwind of growth, adaptation, and connection. From the very first day, it's been inspiring to see how well everyone has settled into the rhythms of school life here. The students have embraced their new environment with enthusiasm, forging meaningful friendships and demonstrating a strong commitment to their learning journey.
Academic progress has been a standout feature of this term. Teachers have noted the dedication and curiosity our Year 9s bring to their studies, laying a solid foundation for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Beyond the classroom, students have engaged in whole school activities like the swimming carnival and shave for a cure, collaborated on projects, and supported one another in building a tight-knit community. These new bonds, formed over shared experiences and laughter, are a testament to the welcoming and inclusive spirit of our school.
Overall, Term 1 has been a resounding success—a promising launch to the 2025 school year. As we head into the mid-semester break, we encourage our students to recharge, enjoy some well-deserved fun, and stay safe. We're excited to welcome everyone back for Term 2, eager to see what the rest of the year holds for this talented group!

Vocational & Industry Pathways (VIP) News
Work Experience is scheduled Monday 23rd June – Thursday 26th June
All Year 10 students are expected to participate in Work Experience during this week, as no classes are scheduled at school.
Noosa District State High School operates Work Experience under the Work Experience Act 1996, the Workplace Health & Safety Act 1995 and the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991. The aim of the Work Experience program is to provide students with a better understanding of work and to sample different types of occupations. Work Experience is an integral part of the Year 10 Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways & Training Planning (SETPLAN) process.
During placement, students will work under the supervision of a host employer and learn about roles and responsibilities in a specific occupation and in the work place generally. Work experience can assist students in determining what pathway they may choose and help them make future career decisions.

History Made at the 2025 Noosa District Swimming Carnival!
The 2025 Noosa District Swimming Carnival was a day to remember! Held in Week 3 at the Cooroy campus, the event saw fierce competition and incredible school spirit. Years 10-12 kicked off the action in the morning, while the juniors brought the energy in the afternoon.
Eerwah made a splash in the novelty events, relays, and war cries, while Pinbarren dominated in the pool. But in a historic turn of events, Eerwah claimed their first overall carnival victory in the past least 30 years!
Congratulations to all competitors for an amazing day of racing, teamwork, and school pride!

Year 12 Health PARTY Excursion
Recently, a group of Year 12 Health students were fortunate to attend the annual PARTY (Preventing Alcohol and Road Trauma for Youths) excursion to the new Sunshine Coast University Hospital. This excursion is sponsored by RACQ and is designed as an education and awareness program to reduce road trauma in youth caused by alcohol.
Our students were exposed to many stories and experiences from local ambulance and nursing staff who regularly attend horrific car crashes and tried to give some simple, yet effective practices for our younger drivers to avoid being their patients.
Within the hospital, our students endured simulation exercises in the emergency rooms to enact pressure situations with airway and circulation problems, then to the simulated intensive care unit where a lung transplant had occurred.
The post-accident pathway continued to the recovery phases with the physiotherapists, dieticians and occupational therapists. Once again, this shocked our students with the amount of time, technology and costs associated after road accidents.
Most importantly, our students hopefully learnt that most road incidents can be prevented, a clear message communicated by Megan – an accident survivor from the Darling Downs – who revealed her story and her anguish after a poor decision with speeding.
This excursion links perfectly with the senior Health subject units Alcohol and Road Trauma, but more importantly it proves some ‘scare tactics’ as too many of our youth are overrepresented in the morbidity and mortality rates in Queensland car accidents.

Beau Galvin Shines on the Football Field!
Year 12 student Beau Galvin has earned a spot on the Sunshine Coast Regional Open Boys Football Team! His hard work and dedication have paid off, and he will now represent the region at the State Titles in Cairns later this year.
This is an incredible achievement, and we are proud to see Beau showcasing his talent on a bigger stage. Congratulations, Beau—we wish you the best of luck at the State Titles!
Year 11 Boys Volleyball Team in Strong Contention
Our Year 11 Boys Trish Buckley Shield Volleyball Team is making waves in the competition! After three rounds, they sit in second place on the ladder, with one crucial game remaining.
In Round 3, the team put on an impressive performance to defeat Glasshouse Christian College, keeping their finals hopes alive. Their final match against Mountain Creek on the last Friday of Term will determine their overall standing.
Best of luck to the team—let’s finish strong!

Chloe Keenan Selected for National Refereeing Opportunity!
Year 10 student Chloe Keenan is heading to Ballarat, Victoria, this October to referee Touch Football at the School Sport Australia Games! Chloe was one of a select few chosen for the QRSS officiating program, which provides pathways for students to develop their skills at all levels of representative sport.
As part of the program, Chloe will attend several development sessions throughout the year, all subsidized by QRSS. This is an incredible opportunity, and we’re excited to see where her journey takes her!
Students interested in officiating can still apply for the program—see Mr. Hoy in the Cooroy HPE staffroom for more information.
Murray Gordon Adam Hoy
HOD HPE Sports Coordinator
As we begin to wind down on the first term of 2025, it is time to reflect on the outstanding achievements already accomplished this year. Firstly, in the wake of our swimming carnival in Week 3, it was announced that Eerwah has come away victorious for the first time in 20 years, a significant accomplishment that has been a long time coming for many die-hard fans. Well done Eerwah. It was great to see everyone dressed up and supporting their house, and we look forward to seeing this continued participation in our cross-country next term.
Furthermore, our year 12 marine students enjoyed a weeklong excursion to Great Keppel Island, where they participated in snorkeling and collecting information on sea life and coral for their upcoming assignment. Thank you to all the teachers and staff for making this possible.
In the academic field, our year 7’s and 9’s have just completed their NAPLAN testing in week 7, while year 11 and 12 students prepare for vital upcoming exams in week 10.
The recently renovated hall bathrooms have provided a much needed and exciting new life to the hall facilities, which will be utilised daily by all students, as well as members of the school community when attending events in the hall. These events include Comedy for a Cause, which is going ahead on Saturday 29th of March at 7pm, and our upcoming musical in term 3, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Get your tickets and don’t miss out.
Additionally, Thursday of week 8 saw Mr. Hoy shave his head for our annual do it for cancer fundraiser. It was great to see so many people participating by wearing ribbons and spraying their hair in support of this great cause. Donations were also collected for the coin line challenge, where each year level competes to produce the longest line of coins, laid out across the hall floor. This year, grade 12 was the clear winner, stretching the whole length of the basketball court, followed by the year 9’s, then 10’s with year 11 bringing up the tail. All coins and contributions will be counted and donated to the leukemia foundation. Every dollar raised contributes to providing families with necessary support and powering research projects aimed at achieving a blood cancer-free future.
ANZAC day ceremonies will be held on Wednesday week 1 with veterans and members of the community attending the school to highlight the importance of commemoration on this significant day, as well as ANZAC services being held in Cooroy, Eumundi, Tewantin and other locations across the Sunshine Coast, on April 25th. Make sure to attend if you can.
On behalf of the Student Council, we wish everyone a happy and safe holiday, and look forward to seeing you next term.

Fellow Year 7 rider Ziva Fitzgerald had a standout competition, claiming the 95cm Combined Training Championship, placing 4th overall in 1m Showjumping, and securing 3rd and 5th place in Novice and Elementary Dressage, respectively. These outstanding results earned her the prestigious title of Wide Bay Overall Intermediate Rider Champion.

Year 12 Marine Science Excursion to Konomie Island
During week 5, our Year 12 Marine Science students embarked on an excursion to Konomie Island Environmental Education Centre, immersing themselves in hands-on fieldwork and experiencing the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef firsthand. The trip’s primary goal was to collect essential data for their assessment but we also had time for some other activities such as fishing and camp challenges.
One of the highlights of the trip was snorkelling on the reefs around the Keppel Islands. Students had the chance to observe the coral ecosystems, identify a variety of marine species, and gather important data to support their studies. This real-world experience allowed them to apply classroom knowledge in an authentic setting, enhancing their understanding of marine biodiversity and reef health.
Mother Nature did however have a surprise in store for us! The high winds brought by Cyclone Alfred made for some challenging conditions, particularly on the boat rides to and from the reefs. Despite the weather, the students remained enthusiastic and made the most of their time on the island.
The excursion to Konomie Island was an incredible experience, blending scientific research with outdoor adventure. Our students returned with valuable data, unforgettable memories, and a newfound respect for the power of the ocean. A huge thank you to the staff who made this trip possible.

Sahil’s Global Cycling Journey to Save Soil
On Monday, 24th March, Noosa District SHS welcomed 19-year-old environmental activist Sahil Jha, who is preparing for a remarkable 20,000 km cycling journey across four continents to raise awareness about the global soil crisis. Sahil, who began his journey on 21st March 2025 from Bundaberg, will visit 20 countries over 15 months, advocating for sustainable agricultural practices and soil health.
At just 16, Sahil cycled 15,000 km across India, engaging with over 250 institutions to raise awareness about soil degradation. Now, his mission is global—aiming to protect soil and combat its degradation, which threatens food security, biodiversity, and climate stability.
Sahil’s visit to our Year 11 QCIA Agriculture Class inspired students to take action for sustainability. He emphasised how improving soil health is key to mitigating climate change and ensuring a secure food future.
Follow Sahil’s journey on social media @soilsahiljha and join the #SaveSoil movement to support this vital cause. Let’s come together to protect our planet’s soil for future generations.

HQ Plantations - Toolara Nursery
Our Year 12 agriculture students thoroughly enjoyed their recent day trip to HQ Plantations, Toolara nursery. Students learnt about the entire process from seed collection and genetics, grading and planting, right through to harvesting and processing. The class got hands on sorting seeds and explored many of the technologies used in the industry, including the firm favourite, the fire tanker and it’s high-powered hoses. A nursery operation of this scale was a real eye-opener and students were able to recognise the vast opportunities within the forestry sector as part of our diverse Australian agricultural industry.

Equestrian Team Shines at Victory College Showjumping Event
Noosa District SHS’s Equestrian Team continues to impress, with outstanding results at the recent Victory College Showjumping Event. Our talented riders showcased their skill, determination, and teamwork, achieving fantastic placings across multiple classes.
Year 10 student, Cassidy, delivered a strong performance, placing 5th overall in the 70cm class and 9th overall in the 80cm class. Meanwhile, Year 12 student, Billie, excelled in the higher divisions, securing 10th place overall in the 90cm class and 7th overall in the 1m event.
Adding to their success, both Cassidy and Billie placed 4th in the AM5 event, demonstrating their ability to navigate technical courses under pressure.
These results reflect the dedication and hard work of our equestrian athletes, and we congratulate them on their achievements. Well done, Cassidy and Billie!

Find a Frog in February
On the 20th February, Junior Secondary students from Noosa District State High School ventured out to do their annual night survey for ‘Find a Frog in February’, coordinated by the Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee (MRCCC) and funded by Noosa Shire Council. It was a great time to go spotting while frogs are still out and about before the weather cools.
Ollie Scully from the Mary River Catchment Coordinating Committee (MRCCC) lead the survey and pointed out key identifying features of local species. A creek transect was surveyed on the schools neighbouring property, students analysed recordings from listening posts and observations along permanent survey markers. Both male and female Giant Barred Frogs were an exciting find on the night! One of Australia’s largest vulnerable species, tadpoles can grow up to 11cm long! Adults and juveniles were spotted hiding in leaf litter along the creek banks showing a healthy population. Further to our 2024 survey and on recording the Giant Barred frog, property owners Tim and Kerry fenced the sensitive creek area to prevent cattle from entering to protect the important creek bank habitat!
Teacher, Nikki Olds said that as keen citizen scientists, students do a real survey out in the field and learn valuable monitoring skills. With many students attending surveys over two or three years they build their knowledge of local habitat and ecosystems. The data they record helps guide future conservation efforts by contributing to national records.” I’d encourage all schools to contribute and get involved with their local conservation organisations”.
“We found some amazing threatened species such as the Great Barred frog and Tusk frog. We learned lots about how to identify frogs from our instructor and had heaps of fun” Maya.
“Ollie explained many features of the Giant Barred frog, including their unique back patterns that are being used to identify individuals on surveys. Also, he explained the differences between frogs and toads to identify frogs that look a bit like toads!” Numeirah.
Local populations occur mostly within natural riparian zones on private property and within protected areas so we’re grateful to partner with our neighbours at Pomona campus. A special thank you Kerry, Tim and Ollie and parents for supporting our students on these surveys!

STEM Innovation Projects – Semester 1, 2025
Exciting developments are underway at NDSHS with the introduction of the Flying Plus Program, which now includes a STEM Innovation class. Led by Mrs Erin CLarke, who has over 10 years of experience in STEM implementation and development, this program goes beyond science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It fosters collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking—essential skills for future innovators.
This semester, students have the opportunity to work in groups on projects of their choice across various STEM fields.
STEM Innovation Project Groups
Group 1 – Australian STEM Video Game Challenge
Students are designing a video game as part of the Australian STEM Games Challenge. They will develop a game design document, detailing characters, story, graphics, and mechanics. Their game must align with this year’s theme:
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." – Lao Tzu
For more information, visit: https://www.stemgames.org.au/
Group 2 – 3D Printing & Moving Parts
This group is exploring 3D printing applications in the school environment, focusing on printed moving parts such as bearings. Students will not only design components but also collect and analyse data on different designs, filaments, and print times to determine the most efficient process.
Group 3 – Sustainable Fashion
With the amount of clothing waste rising each year, this group is tackling sustainability by designing their own eco-friendly fashion line. They will combine traditional techniques like iron-on vinyl with modern technology such as 3D printing to create innovative, upcycled clothing.
This group would love donations. They are currently looking for second-hand clothing in good condition that is red, black, white, or gold. Please drop them in at the Pomona office and the drop will collect them daily.
Group 4 – Robotics
Students in this group are working with EV3 robots, focusing on both the physical design and coding required to compete in the Sunshine Coast Regional RoboCup.
Group 5 – BMX Track Engineering
A major project this semester involves the planning and construction of a BMX track for the school. This is an extremely challenging task that involves complex engineering principles, and we are excited to see how this project develops.
Group 6/7 – Esports & Game Development Blog
Esports has grown rapidly over the past decade, but improving at competitive gaming requires more than just playing. Students in this group will create a blog about their chosen game, featuring:
- Gameplay videos
- Voice-over tutorials
- Screen-in-screen demonstrations
- Research on game strategies
This project will provide a platform for students to teach others how to play and improve their skills.

The STEM Innovation program is an exciting space with endless possibilities. If you have experience in any of these areas or would like to mentor a group, please contact Erin Clarke at eclar17@eq.edu.au

Farewell to a School Legend: Sue Robertson’s 20 Years of Dedication
For two decades, Sue Robertson has been an integral part of the Noosa District State High School (NDSHS) community, serving as the heart of the tuckshop, the backbone of the uniform shop, and the driving force behind countless P&C initiatives. Now, as Sue embarks on a well-earned new chapter, the school community reflects on her invaluable contributions and lasting legacy.
Sue’s journey at NDSHS began in 2005 as a volunteer, leading to her employment with the P&C in 2006. Since then, she has dedicated herself to improving the school environment, ensuring students and staff were well-fed and well-supported. Whether serving up meals with a warm smile or ensuring families had access to quality uniforms, Sue’s presence has been a source of care and kindness.
As the P&C operations manager, Sue played a pivotal role in enhancing school facilities and projects. Under her guidance, the P&C has provided vital support, funding initiatives that directly benefited students and staff. Her commitment to the school’s success has been unwavering, and her impact immeasurable.
Reflecting on her time at NDSHS, Sue shares, “I have greatly valued my time at NDSHS, especially engaging with the students. It has been incredibly rewarding to see them grow from Year 7 to Year 12. The support and camaraderie of the staff have meant a great deal to me, and I am grateful for the friendships I have formed.”
Sue’s dedication was never just about the roles she filled but the relationships she built and the positive impact she had on those around her. Students and staff alike have been touched by her generosity and care.
Sue’s departure marks the end of an era, but her contributions will be remembered. The NDSHS community is deeply grateful for her service, and while she will no longer be at the helm of tuckshop operations, her legacy will continue to inspire.
On behalf of the entire NDSHS family, we thank Sue Robertson and wish her all the best in her next adventure. Sue’s dedication and hard work have left an indelible mark on our school, and she will always be a cherished part of the NDSHS story.
P&C News
The P&C are looking for some talented special people to jump on board and help out with making our P&C and school great for our local students. If you think any of the lists on these posters suit the type of person you are and your skills please get in touch with our president Kelli Saunderson.
The P&C is responsible for the supporting the school providing our School Canteen at both Pomona and Cooroy campuses and supply of school uniforms including the Uniform Shop with all profits being directed back to support the school as a whole. Previously the P&C have generously donated these funds towards the purchase of toilet block facilities at Mimburi, Toyota HiAce 12-seater mini bus and air-conditioning at Cooroy and Pomona Campuses. Your P&C Association is comprised of a small number of parents who choose to contribute two hours a meeting to benefit the students at Noosa District State High School. The more people involved the merrier, all parents are welcome, and encouraged, to attend.
