Welcome to our final newsletter of what has been an outstanding term at Noosa High.
As we approach the final stages, I wish students all the best as they close out semester assessments contributing to end of semester reports which are planned to be sent home via email in the first week of Term 3.
Celebrating Success
- Junior Secondary Showcase was an excellent success 27th May at Pomona Campus. The afternoon was very well attended by current and future families and the staff did a fantastic job showcasing what we do best. Thanks to all involved, we have a lot to be proud of with our unique and specialised Junior Secondary transitions practices and it was special to meet so many Year 5 and 6 students getting excited about High School. Next week we welcome all our Primary School Year 6 students to Pomona Campus for transition day which we are also very excited about.
- Sleep Rough: Congratulations to our student leaders and interact club in partnership with Rotary Cooroy who organised the Sleep Rough fundraiser and sleep out last Friday night. Our students and staff braved the cold at our Mimburi campus and raised a significant amount for the Backpack Beds initiative which provides portable beds for those without shelter. This has grown to be part of our tradition at Noosa High and is a wonderful cause. Well done to all involved
- Cattle team success: Well done to our cattle team who have had a great season so far. Our students and cattle are doing themselves and the school proud, most impressively with their recent suite of awards that reflect their incredible skills in animal preparation, team work and presentation. Well done!
Athletics Carnival
We look forward to ending the term on a high at our athletics carnival Friday 27th June. Eewah is well placed for champion house after winning the cross country and swimming earlier in the year. Could this really be the year of Eewah…16 years in the making to have success? Good luck to all of our students in what will be a great way to end the term.
Final note
Noosa High has been abuzz with activity and enjoyment both within and outside the classroom and I trust that you will be just as inspired my me as the stories in our newsletter. We couldn’t be prouder of our school, and I thank you for your part in that. We have had an excellent term and first semester at NDSHS, please be safe over the holidays when they arrive.

Junior Secondary Campus Context …
A Focus on Quality Teaching and Learning
As term 2 draws to a close, we reflect on a busy yet deeply rewarding few months at our Junior Secondary campus. Our learning walks and talks have shown us just how engaged our students are, working collaboratively with their peers and teachers, and embracing learning as an active, exciting journey.
At the Pomona campus, learning isn’t something that simply happens to you. It’s something you do. It’s about curiosity, creativity, and connection. When students ask questions, think critically, and have fun along the way, learning becomes not only more effective but more meaningful.
As we head into the final weeks of the term, assessment is front of mind for both students and staff. Our students are giving their best to complete their assessments, while our dedicated teachers are finalising Semester 1 reports, which will be emailed to families early in term 3. We encourage you to sit down with your child to reflect on their progress, celebrating strengths and setting goals for growth. With new timetables, assessment calendars, and unit outlines coming in Term 3, it’s a great time to support your child in finding a healthy balance between school, play, and other commitments.
Living the FLYING Philosophy
Congratulations to the students who have been recognised at our assemblies throughout the past term. Your commitment to our FLYING philosophy and school values is what makes the Pomona campus such a special place to learn and grow.
At Pomona, we believe in stepping up, not standing by. School is a place to try new things, challenge yourself, and become a lifelong learner. As we wrap up Semester 1, we encourage every student to reflect on their journey so far and set personal goals for the rest of the year.
Our Year 8 students are preparing for their transition to the Cooroy campus, while our Year 7s are stepping into their roles as leaders of Junior Secondary. We’re proud of the growth we’ve seen and excited for what’s ahead.
Celebrating Community and Connection
This term has been full of vibrant transition activities, including our Junior Secondary Showcase, Year 6 Transition Day and our ongoing school tours and enrolment sessions. These events are a wonderful reminder of what makes Noosa District Junior Secondary at Pomona so unique, a warm and welcoming community where students, staff, and families come together to celebrate learning.
A big thank you to our staff and students for making the Showcase such a success. From engaging curriculum activities to outstanding performances, it was a true celebration of our school spirit. We also extend a warm welcome to our future families. Please ensure enrolment applications are completed and returned to the Pomona campus.
Thank You for a Strong Semester
To our students, families, and staff, thank you for your support and dedication throughout Semester 1. The Pomona campus continues to thrive as a unique Junior Secondary environment where collaboration, care, and curiosity lead the way.
Here’s to a restful break and an exciting start to Term 3.
Kind regards,
Josh Cleary
Head of Campus
As we approach the end of a busy and successful Semester 1, we want to thank our families for their continued support and partnership. With the June/July holidays just around the corner, it’s a great time to check in on a few key updates that will help us finish the term well and prepare for a smooth start to Semester 2.
Uniform and school pride - start the week right
At Noosa District State High School, we take pride in the way our students present themselves. Our uniform reflects the high standards, unity, and respect that are central to our school culture.
As the colder weather sets in, we remind families that only approved school jumpers and jackets are to be worn. This ensures consistency and upholds the pride we take in our school image.
We also remind families that formal uniform is to be worn every Monday, helping us start each week with a strong and united focus on learning.
Thank you for supporting our uniform expectations and helping us maintain a sense of pride and belonging across our school community
Introducing Consent Manager in QParents – Semester 2 Trial
At Noosa District State High School, we’re committed to making communication and permission processes more efficient, secure, and accessible for families. That’s why we’re trialling the Consent Manager feature in QParents throughout Semester 2, 2025, ahead of a full rollout in 2026.
Consent Manager allows parents and carers to give permission for school activities—such as excursions, media releases, and curriculum events—digitally through the QParents app. This trial aims to streamline how we collect consent, reduce paperwork, and give families a clear and convenient way to manage permissions in real time.
We’ve already seen a great uptake in this process, particularly for high-risk activity permissions for our upcoming Athletics Carnival, and we thank families for engaging with this new platform so positively.
We encourage all families to ensure their QParents account is active and up to date so they’re ready to participate in this improved process. If you need support accessing or setting up your QParents account, please contact the school office.
Thank you for partnering with us as we trial this new system—designed to support families, improve efficiency, and enhance school-home communication.
Career Ready: Vocational Education and Training (VET) policy changes 2026
Earlier this year the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET) released a proposal to changes for current VETis (VET in School) funding for 2026. This proposal will only effect new VET programs; current VETis funded courses will not be impacted.
While this is a proposal currently, Noosa District State High School is engaging in planning for the changes and ensuring minimal impact for our Year 10, 11 and 12 students in 2026. We will be discussing the new Career Ready proposal, how it may impact subject and VET options for our Senior Students in our upcoming events: the Senior School webinar on Thursday 19th June, and the Pathways and Career Expo information session on 29th July at 5.30pm in the Cooroy campus library.
Career Ready
DTET has proposed to replace VETis with Career Ready. This is part of their Good people. Good jobs: Queensland Workforce Strategy (2022–2032). Career Ready is proposed to encompass a suite of complementary programs supporting students across their secondary schooling to choose the right career and training pathways for them, including funding for:
- Gateway to Industry Schools (GISP) programs
- new non-accredited Career Tasters for Year 10 students
- Certificate I and II qualifications aligned to VET careers in demand for the economy and informed by industry consultation
- school-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SATs).
Please note that all information published by the School will be accurate at the time of publishing. Any changes due to the Career Ready proposal will be updated via school communication lines. For more information on Career Ready, please go here: https://www.qld.gov.au/education/training/subsidies/career-ready
A reminder that Semester 1 report cards will be emailed home in Friday week 1 of Term 3. We encourage families to take time during the break to rest, recharge, and prepare for a positive start to the new term.
We wish all students and families a safe and restful holiday and look forward to an even stronger Semester 2 together.
Kind regards
We encourage all families to register for QParents, a secure and convenient online platform that provides easy access to your child’s school information at Noosa District SHS.
QParents allows you to stay connected with our school and manage key aspects of your child’s education from your computer or mobile device. The web and mobile app offers a simple and efficient way to interact with the school.

Year Level Coordinator Reports
Year 12 Report
It has been an absolute privilege to witness our Year 12 students continue to mature and strengthen their learning partnerships with staff. The commitment and growth shown across all areas of their studies is something we are incredibly proud of.
A special highlight this term was our celebration of “100 School Days Left”. With four enormous cakes and a sea of smiling faces, the entire cohort came together in a joyful show of unity and shared purpose. It was a beautiful reminder of the strong community we have built and the common goal we are all working toward.
Looking ahead, we’re already planning for life after graduation. University open days offer fantastic opportunities to explore future pathways:
- QUT – Gardens Point & Kelvin Grove: Sunday 27 July
- USC – Sunshine Coast: Sunday 3 August
- UQ – St Lucia: Sunday 3 August
- ACU – McAuley: Sunday 3 August
- Griffith – Nathan: Sunday 10 August
Finally, we’re gearing up for another “last” milestone – our much-loved Athletics Day. I can’t wait to see the energy, leadership, and outrageous costumes our Year 12s will bring. It’s going to be a day to remember!
Michelle Budd
Year 11 Report
It’s been a massive and successful term for our Year 11 cohort and as we reach the half way mark of the year they deserve to be commended on their achievements thus far. Academically, students have been performing admirably, with some excellent Unit 1 results and a dedicated and focused start to Unit 2 particularly pleasing. We’ve also had a number of sporting successes involving our Year 11s, including great results in both boys and girls senior football and good participation in cross country and athletics carnival pre-events. It as also really nice to see so many Year 11s volunteer their time and sacrifice their comfort during our annual Sleep Rough event at Mimburri Campus recently. The selflessness and kindness of those who attended and raised money for the homeless was wonderful to see.
As we head towards the end of term, it’s important to ensure standards remain high in regards to work ethic, classroom behaviour and uniform. As I’ve reminded students on our weekly parades, the knowledge and habits gained in the early part of the each unit of senior work leads to success when assessment takes place. Keep working hard! Our 11s look fantastic in their new senior jackets and have represented the school with pride by upholding the uniform when out and about in the community. It has also been fantastic to see so many dressed in white shirts each Monday – a great example to set for the Year 9s and 10s. Any necessary uniform items can be purchased from our uniform shop at the Cooroy Campus.
Have a safe and restful mid-year break and enjoy the holidays! I look forward to catching up with the Year 11s when school resumes on Monday the 14th of July.
Jacob Boulden
Year 10 Report
As we near the end of Semester 1, it is wonderful to see so many Year 10 students working hard to achieve their absolute best in their assessments. Semester 1 achievement is of course very important as the information will form part of the discussions at SET Planning later in the year.
Future pathways are discussed every parade and during VWS lessons and students are hearing lots of information about traineeships, QCE, ATAR and all other aspects of the options open to them. I am encouraging students to talk to me, Mr Quinn, Ms Riley, VWS teachers or our Deputy of Senior Schooling Ms Seaniger if there is anything they don’t fully understand or would like to know more about in regard to their future pathway options. Ms Seaniger presented to students at the end of week 8 in regards to subject selections for next year and the pathways and opportunities that are present for the year 10’s.
UniSC presented to the Year level recently and introduced them to the amazing courses they have on offer. They dispelled the myth that university is all academic and not ‘hands on’ as they talked about the opportunities for young people who are interested in practical and active subjects such as sport and recreation, as well as those who plan to follow a more traditional route in their future learning.
Thursday Week 9 see’s the Year 10 cohort participate in the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness program at Doonan. Students will be actively engaging in activities involving driver safety as they prepare for a life on the road. Year 10’s have a busy last week of term as they embark on their work experience from Monday-Thursday of week 10. Friday is a regular school day as students compete and participate in the school’s athletics carnival.
I hope all Year 10 students are now considering carefully their ‘what next?’ This is the time in their school journey that can shape the future and their subject choices for senior school are at the heart of this. To reiterate, I encourage any student who has questions to talk to staff in school who can help, so that they make informed and sensible decisions next term.
I wish all Year 10 students and their families a happy, safe and restful holiday. See you in Semester 2!
Keegan Green
Year 9 Report
Hello All.
Year 9 assessment time is here with most subjects having a task due before the end of the term. Check your child's assessment calendar to ensure that you are both aware of the tasks that are due. My advice to students and parents is to start early! Getting started on assignments as soon as they are received means that drafts will be well completed and the back log of work during assessment time is reduced.
Correct uniform, especially as the weather is getting cooler, is important in presenting work ready at school and professional in the community. Please ensure white shirts on Monday and if an article of uniform is non-compliant, please prompt your student to go to T11 before school to change.
Attendance, work ethic and attitude are also key components in success as a student. As a reminder no student should be out of class without a teacher's permission and pass or, is to leave the school grounds during school time unless they sign out with a note.
It was fantastic to see so many of the year 9 students take the opportunity to support the Sleep Rough For The Homeless held at our Mimburi Campus. This willingness to be part of a team will hold these participants in good stead for the future.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thanks

Good Luck to all Year 10 Students on their Work Experience in week 10.

North District Cross Country
The NDSHS HPE staff have been co-ordinating the North District (ND) interschool athletics carnival for many of the last 20 years. This year, we made a change and hosted the ND Cross Country interschool carnival at Mimburi. This turned out to be a master stroke, with a very successful carnival last Friday. Congratulations to the following students from Noosa District SHS who finished in the top 6, including on the podium and will have the opportunity to represent the North District at the upcoming Sunshine Coast regional cross country trials:
- Grace Gearing – 13 Years – 4th
- Isaiah Martin – 12 Years – exemption successful
- Levi Pipia – 13 Years – 2nd Podium
- Murray Pocock – 16 Years – 3rd Podium
The carnival could not be a success without the work of many people including Stan and Andrew - for preparing Mimburi and mentoring our lead riders; Michelle Budd, Janine Shelton and their crew for providing impressive lunch packs for staff and a canteen full of treats for runners and spectators and the ND board led by Andrew Fearon and Jill Canton for the extensive and accurate timing and paperwork
Hopefully, we get to host again next year.

Cooroy Interschool Sport – Futsal Frenzy
The first Cooroy interschool tournament kicked off this week with the Futsal Frenzy. Three teams competed in the senior boys division: The Doot-Doots, The Rousers, and Riley and the Sheathers.
The competition started with The Doot-Doots edging out The Rousers 2-1 in a hard-fought opening match. The Rousers then bounced back with a solid 2-0 win over Riley and the Sheathers. In their second match, The Doot-Doots showed their dominance with a commanding 4-0 victory over Riley and the Sheathers, setting up a blockbuster final between the undefeated Doot-Doots and The Rousers.
Despite an early goal from The Doot-Doots, the final was a close contest in the opening stages. However, the relentless pace and teamwork of The Doot-Doots proved too much as they pulled away to secure an emphatic 8-2 win.
Next up, The Doot-Doots will take on the Staff Team in Week 9 — a match not to be missed!

Noosa District Girls Shine at Karen Murphy Cup 9’s Tournament
Noosa District State High School proudly took three girls’ rugby league teams to Caboolture last week to compete in the first round of the Karen Murphy Cup 9’s Tournament—a prestigious statewide competition where the top four teams from each district earn a spot in the next stage.
Our Junior team, made up of Year 7 and 8 students, showed grit and determination throughout the day. While the results didn’t fall their way, their teamwork and sportsmanship were on full display. With such strong foundations, this is certainly a team to watch in the years ahead.
The Senior team faced a challenge in not being able to field a full squad, but that didn’t stop the girls from making an impact. Those who took the field combined with students from other schools and played with heart, skill, and a true passion for the game. They represented Noosa District with pride in every aspect of play.
It was the Middle School team—featuring players from Years 9 and 10—who stole the spotlight. In a dominant display, the girls won three out of their four matches without conceding a single try. Their effort secured them third place out of nine competing schools, earning them a well-deserved spot in the district finals, set to be held on June 3rd at the Nirimba Sports Complex.
We congratulate all players for their outstanding performances and wish our middle school team the best of luck as they continue their journey in this exciting competition!

Year 9 & 10 Students Shine at Interschool Sport
Last week, a large number of our Year 9 and 10 students proudly represented Noosa District SHS in a range of sports at the interschool competition—and what a day it was!
Our Girls Netball team showed determination and teamwork throughout the day, earning themselves a well-deserved 3rd place. In Girls Touch Football, Noosa dominated the field, with our teams finishing an outstanding 1st and 3rd—a fantastic achievement that reflects their skill and preparation.
On the boys’ side, one of our Boys Touch Football teams secured a strong 2nd place finish, demonstrating great communication and consistency across all games. Meanwhile, our Boys Football (Soccer) team played above their experience level and held their own against some very tough competition. Their growth and resilience throughout the day was impressive, and they’ll no doubt take a lot away from the experience.
Our Girls Volleyball team, made up entirely of first-time players, took to the court with courage and spirit. Facing teams with players at an Australian representative level, they never gave up and walked away with valuable experience and pride in their efforts.
Finally, our two Boys Basketball teams gave it everything they had in a tough field. While wins didn’t come their way, their effort, sportsmanship, and positive attitude were commendable and a great reflection of the Noosa District SHS spirit.
We’re incredibly proud of all our Year 9 and 10 students who participated. Whether you brought home a trophy or simply gave your best, you represented our school with pride, determination, and respect. Congratulations to all!
A big congratulations to all our Year 9 and 10 students who proudly represented Noosa District SHS at interschool sport last week!
- Our Girls Netball team played brilliantly to finish 3rd
- Our Girls Touch Football teams claimed an impressive 1st and 3rd place
- One of our Boys Touch Football teams took out a strong 2nd place
Well done to all students involved for your effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
You’ve done Noosa proud!
Regional Cross-Country Championships
Four talented Noosa District students qualified to compete at the Regional Cross Country Championships at Noosaville State School on Tuesday, 3rd June.
Year 10 student Murray Pocock ran an outstanding race, finishing 6th to earn selection in the Sunshine Coast team for the State Championships in Term 3.
Also representing Noosa with pride were Levia Pipia (7th), Isaiah Martin (8th), and Grace Gearing (13th) in their respective events — all delivering incredible performances against strong competition.
Congratulations to all four athletes on their dedication, determination, and success. Well done, champions!
Lachie Shines in Rugby League and Touch Football
Noosa District SHS is proud to celebrate the recent sporting achievements of Year 12 student Lachie, whose dedication and talent continue to impress both on and off the field.
In April, Lachie was invited to join the Sunshine Coast Falcons Rugby League U20 Development Squad—a remarkable recognition of his skills and potential in the sport. He has been actively involved in their training program, gaining valuable experience and taking his game to the next level.
Lachie also showcased his talent in touch football this term. After being postponed due to Cyclone Alfred, the National Touch Championship was rescheduled to May. Lachie’s team performed brilliantly and went on to win their division, bringing home the championship title.
In another impressive achievement, Lachie represented the Sunshine Coast Schoolboys 16–18 team at the Queensland State Championships held in Redlands. The team fought hard throughout the tournament and made it to the Plate Final after an intense drop-off match in the semifinals. Despite a narrow loss in the final, Lachie was awarded the Coach’s Award for his exceptional performance, leadership, and determination.
What makes this feat even more inspiring is that Lachie played three games with an undiagnosed fractured thumb knuckle, showing immense toughness and commitment to his team.
We commend Lachie for his outstanding efforts and determination across both sports. He continues to be a fantastic role model for our school community, and we look forward to seeing what he achieves next. Well done, Lachie!

As Term Two draws to a close, it's a perfect time to reflect on the many highlights we've experienced—and to look ahead with excitement at all the great things still to come.
In recent events, we proudly held our annual ‘Sleep Rough’ fundraiser last Friday.
This meaningful initiative raises funds to provide backpack beds for people experiencing homelessness. Despite the freezing temperatures, it was heart-warming to see such a strong turnout, with everyone coming together in solidarity and supporting an important cause. The night was a powerful reminder of the challenges faced by those sleeping rough every day, and the impact we can make when we act with compassion and community spirit. Seeing such a strong turnout was heart-warming.
Additionally, our senior students have just celebrated a major milestone— their final 100 days of school! This special occasion marks the beginning of the countdown to graduation and was filled with laughter, memories, and a sense of excitement for the journey ahead. It’s a bittersweet reminder of how far they’ve come and all that still lies ahead in their final months.
Looking forward to what’s still to come, our annual Athletics Carnival is just around the corner, and excitement is building! It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their skills, cheer on their friends, and enjoy a day filled with team spirit and healthy competition. Whether you're running, jumping, or supporting from the sidelines, it’s sure to be a fun and memorable event for all. There will be lots of snacks and a delicious sausage sizzle, so make sure to dress up in your house colours and get involved in the day.
Finally, this year’s production of Willy Wonka is fast approaching, with the highly anticipated showcase set to begin next term. Students have been working hard behind the scenes—rehearsing lines, perfecting choreography, and bringing the magical world of Wonka’s chocolate factory to life. From colourful costumes to catchy musical numbers, this production promises to be a delightful and entertaining experience for all. Be sure to mark your calendars and come along to support the incredible talent and effort of everyone involved!
On behalf of the student council, we hope you look forward to the last two weeks of term and enjoy the holiday break.

Hannah Represents Noosa District SHS at 2025 STEM Girl Power Camp
Year 10 student Hannah was selected to represent Noosa District SHS at the Department of Education’s 2025 STEM Girl Power Camp, held in Brisbane from 19–23 May.
Hannah was one of 60 students chosen from across Queensland to attend the camp, which promotes female participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). During the week, students took part in hands-on workshops, met inspiring industry professionals, and explored a wide range of STEM careers.
Camp highlights included visits to leading facilities such as SPARQ-ed, the Queensland Museum, and a chosen industry site like Cross River Rail, TechnologyOne, the Ecosciences Precinct, or the Integrated Pathology Learning Centre. Students also led science activities for local primary school students and learned about the importance of STEM communication.
As a 2025 STEM Ambassador, Hannah will now lead a STEM event during National Science Week in Term 3 to encourage other students to explore STEM pathways.
Congratulations to Hannah on this outstanding opportunity and achievement.
8A Summit Maths Students Explore Real-World Design at Noosa Mini Golf
The 8A Summit Maths class recently swapped the classroom for Noosa Mini Golf as part of their Term 2 assessment, exploring how mathematics applies in real-world design.
Students investigated key elements of mini golf course construction, including site selection, drainage, native landscaping, and the strategic placement of obstacles. They also enjoyed applying their maths skills while playing a few rounds.
A special thank you to Scott Armstrong from Noosa Hills Par 3 for his engaging talk, which inspired students to think like engineers and consider how maths shapes the world around us.

Senior Cert II in Creative Industries Students Go Behind the Scenes of Frankenstein
Last week (4th June), Noosa District SHS senior Creative Industries students had the unique opportunity to experience live theatre like never before during an unforgettable backstage tour and performance viewing of Frankenstein. The excursion combined education, inspiration, and a touch of theatrical magic—perfect for our soon-to-be graduates as they prepare to explore creative careers.
The excursion at QPAC – Queensland’s premier performing arts precinct, began with an exclusive Front of House discussion, followed by a behind-the-scenes tour of the theatre. Students were guided through areas rarely seen by the public, including the costume department, loading bays, green rooms and backstage wings. They even got to chat with stage managers and technicians who brought the production to life. For many, it was their first time understanding the sheer scale and collaboration involved in staging a professional performance.
After the tour, students took their seats for the matinee performance of Frankenstein, a haunting and visually stunning adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel. The show blended modern special effects with traditional stagecraft, creating an atmosphere that was both eerie and emotionally powerful. From the creature’s transformation to the dramatic lighting and soundscapes, the production provided a masterclass in storytelling through theatre.
Students emerged from the matinee with a deeper understanding and respect for the various elements of production and how they all come together. “Seeing what happens behind the scenes showed me how much creativity and teamwork happens off stage too. It gave me a better appreciation for performance.”
Year 9 History Students Explore the Past at the Queensland Museum
On Wednesday 21st May, 50 enthusiastic Year 9 History students travelled to the Queensland Museum Kurilpa (Brisbane) to explore two captivating exhibitions that brought the past to life.
The first - Discovering Ancient Egypt - gave students a fascinating insight into the lives and beliefs of one of the world’s oldest civilizations. Featuring five real mummified individuals, the exhibition allowed students to step into the ancient world. With phones and earbuds in hand, they accessed a self-guided audio tour that deepened their understanding of Egyptian rituals, culture, and burial practices.
The second exhibition - Say Our Name - focused on the often-overlooked history of South Sea Islander people in Queensland and New South Wales. This experience was especially meaningful as it connected directly with the students’ current unit of study, *Making a Nation*. The exhibition highlighted the stories, struggles, and contributions of South Sea Islander communities, offering students a powerful and personal perspective on Australia’s past.
Thank you to the teachers Gail Johnston, Fiona Young, Sari Johnston, Bettina Hetherton, Wendy Martin and Leanne Tanner, who volunteered to help out.
It was a memorable and thought-provoking day of learning outside the classroom.
