Dear Parents, students and community
Welcome to the 2025 school year to our entire school community. It has been abuzz with excitement at both campuses and we are off to a truly fantastic start.
I would like to extend a special welcome all of our Year 7 students who have made an excellent start to their junior secondary schooling journey, as well as our new students and the many new families this brings to our vibrant school community across all year levels. It was wonderful to see our students so enthusiastic to be back, ready and equipped for learning, looking outstanding in their uniforms and I thank all of our families for your support in helping to make this happen.
Welcome New staff to our NDSHS team!
This year we welcome a large number of new staff to our team that bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our school. It has been great to see all our new staff off to a great start, alongside our students.
A revised Head of Department model has also been introduced for 2025 with all subject based Heads of Department taking leadership of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning for Years 7-12. Please find the revised Head of Department roles below.
2024 Celebrations – Academic Success
Our excellent results continue at Noosa High and our 2024 Year 12 students did themselves and the school proud with 100% Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or or Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA) and some outstanding ATAR results in the top of the state. 25% of Year 12 students achieved a score above 90 which places them in the top 10% of the state; with seven students placing above 95 as the top 5%. In an outstanding effort, our Senior Dux achieved a 99.15 placing her amongst the elite top 1% of the state. These are outstanding results and as a community, we can be very proud of these.
Our whole of school academic results also reflect excellent achievement in Years 7-11 with 87% of students achieving a C or above pass rate and 50.65% of students achieving at an A or B standard. These continue to build on our excellent NAPLAN achievements that remain above the State in all categories and exceed National standards in almost every most category in Year 7 and Year 9.
2025 in Focus
In 2025 we continue to be guided by:
Our vision statement: Noosa District State High School, creating a safe and caring learning environment that enables the diversity, resilience, creativity and success of all students
Our Values:
- Excellence: we strive for the highest standards academically, socially and personally each and every day
- Integrity: we are committed to the highest ethical standards and behaviours at school and in the community
- Collegiality: we are committed to working together to achieve the best outcomes for every individual in our school community
- Respect: we are considerate of each other, their property and the environment
Our Positive Behaviour for Learning Expectations:
- Respectful, Responsible, Active Learners
2024 – 2027 Strategic Plan
2025 will see the second year of our four year strategic plan that is set to build on the momentum of our school and secure our future direction.
Our Strategic Plan will continue to focus on 3 key Priorities across 4 years:
- Achieve excellence in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning
- Achieve meaningful learning and growth for every student
- Advance to our desired culture
Our 2025 Improvement agenda will focus on continuing to increase A/B results across the school as well as maximising student success through active engagement. All parents can expect to receive information from teachers in the first week regarding the learning focus and assessment for Term 1 and our school will have a very clear focus on maximising student attendance to support learning.
I know these priorities will guide our daily work to support the success of every student as well as build on the strengths and continued success of our school. I look forward to sharing these plans in the coming weeks and working with you to shape the future of our wonderful school.
Uniform and Student Dress Code
We have a high standard of uniform and this will remain the expectation every school day. All students are expected to be in full school uniform as per the Student Dress Code each and every day without exception. This will include all aspects of the policy from formal white shirt, black shoes, jewellery restrictions and the uniform worn as designed without alterations. All students will be expected to wear Formal Uniform (White Shirts) on Tuesday of every week and when representing the school (including excursions). Students not in the correct uniform will be requested to get changed.
I thank all families in advance for your support of this important symbol of pride, unity and high standard of personal presentation. The Uniform shop costings, online ordering and opening hours can be located on our website.
A full version of the Dress code can be located here.
Attendance matters. Every day counts
Did you know that missing one day per fortnight adds up to for weeks off a year? If this increase to one day per week, this is almost an entire term.
Attendance Matters. The link between good attendance and students’ performance at school is overwhelming, and is repeated in every study that has been done around the world. Daily attendance at school really is the gateway to success for every student.
Every day attendance at school puts students in the best position to keep up with their studies, and to engage effectively in extra-curricular activities. Each day that students miss is a day that needs to be made up somewhere. With the high school curriculum moving along quite quickly, it is important to be in regular attendance to best keep up with the educational program.
NDSHS is a school for our community, that seeks a positive long-term outcome for every student. To do this, we need to ensure that all students are at school every day. Your support in this process is invaluable. Please ensure appointments are scheduled out of school time and any absence is explained with appropriate evidence.
The Weeks ahead
The weeks ahead will see a flurry of activity at NDSHS and a range of opportunities available for students – I encourage you to take these and embrace them. Thanks again to our entire school community for your support of a great start.

Junior Secondary Campus Context …
Welcome to 2025 at Pomona Junior Secondary Campus!
We are thrilled to kick off an exciting new year at Pomona with just under 300 enthusiastic Year 7 and 8 students embarking on their learning journeys. Our one-of-a-kind, Junior Secondary campus is dedicated to creating a personalised environment for Years 7-8 that ensures the best possible start to Secondary schooling and this year we celebrate our 10th anniversary.
Thanks to our comprehensive FLYING induction program which ran for the first week, students have quickly adjusted to the structured and supportive routines of school life.
Throughout the induction, students have explored essential school processes, policies, and key topics like bullying and cyber safety. They also engaged in team-building activities and a dynamic Rock and Water session led by Mr. Fuller, our Guidance Officer, which encouraged confidence, self-reflection, and equipped students with practical strategies for handling real-life challenges. In addition, students were introduced to organisational skills, digital setup tips, and the evidence-based Berry Street Education Model. Key lessons from this induction program have been emailed home, and your student's Berry Street diary remains a valuable resource for important information and learning strategies.
Our induction program emphasises the importance of effort and active participation. Students who take ownership of their learning will uncover endless opportunities and gain the FLYING start they need for high school success.
The FLYING Philosophy.
Our Junior Secondary philosophy FLYING, stand for Fun, Limitless, Inquiry, Innovation, Nurturing, and Genuine, and forms the foundation of the Pomona experience. We embody these principles daily and they are reinforced through our weekly wellbeing FLYING lessons delivered by home group teachers.
Year 7 Day Camp at Mimburi
Our new Year 7 students had a fantastic day at the beautiful Mimburi campus in Belli Park, engaging in team-building games, orienteering, and archery. Despite the humid weather, their smiling faces and enthusiastic feedback showed just how much they enjoyed the experience. We are very privileged to able to call Mimburi our third campus. Very few schools can provide their students access to an outdoor education campus with camp facilities, orienteering course, archery range, bush kitchen and flexible learning area.
Building a Strong School-Home Partnership
We value the strong partnership between families and the school. It was wonderful to meet many Year 7 parents at our Parent Lounge on the first day of school. We invite you to join us for the Parent-Teacher Meet and Greet on Tuesday, February 11. This is a great opportunity to connect with your child’s teachers and gain valuable insights into their Junior Secondary experience. If you're unable to attend, we encourage you to reach out via email.
Stay connected by visiting the school website, following us on Facebook and Instagram, and if you haven’t already signed up for QParents, please do so, and you will have a wealth of information about your child at your fingertips.
We’re looking forward to a fantastic year ahead with our amazing Junior Secondary students and families.
Kind regards,
Josh Cleary

A Great Start to the Final Year: Senior Focus Day
The final year of school is off to an inspiring start, thanks to our Senior Focus Day! This special event was designed to set the tone for a productive and fulfilling year, offering our seniors the opportunity to reflect on their achievements and set their sights on the future.
With this year’s chosen theme being “A year of lasts” the Senior Focus Day was not only about preparation but also about celebration, as students recognized how far they’ve come. As they embark on their final year, the energy and enthusiasm from this event will undoubtedly fuel their journey toward graduation. A we celebrate at our last swimming carnival this week I look forward to seeing our leaders in action and our cohort coming together to make lasting memories. Here's to a year of growth, success, and memorable experiences!

Year 11 Report
So far uniform and behaviour have been outstanding. Please remember that Tuesday is formal shirt day and students are expected to wear their white shirt on this day. Students are welcome to then change out of, and back into, their white shirt if they are completing more practical subjects like HPE or manual arts. Please also keep jewellery to a minimum per the uniform policy. Excessive jewellery is prohibited, and we expect our students to present professionally and in a way that mirrors our workplace health and safety requirements. As we head towards the cooler months, our Year 11 students will have a chance to purchase a senior jacket. They will receive this in Term 2 of this year meaning they’ll get at least two winters worth of wear out of it. More information regarding senior jackets will be communicated in the near future.
I’m really proud to be the Year 11 Co-ordinator of such a talented and outgoing cohort, and know that the next two years will bring much success for the class of 2026. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at school on 54722218 or via email at jboul14@eq.edu.au.

Year 10 Report
Hello and welcome to Year 10! We have got off to a great start with the vast majority of students wearing full uniform and bring all equipment to school so they are ready to learn.
From an operational perspective, it’s important to know that ‘White Shirt Tuesdays’ continue to form an important part of Noosa District Culture. Whole Campus Parades take place an alternate Tuesdays and it is always wonderful to see students wearing their white shirts and in doing so, respecting the school expectations.
Year level parades take place on Wednesdays, and it is here that lots of crucial information will be shared so attendance is essential.
Year 10 is an important year for future planning – it is the time when, through VWS and at other times, students will have opportunities to engage in thinking about their Careers and Pathways. Tara Blair is our Industry Liaison Officer, and she will be an important point of contact for many Year 10 students and parents over the course of the year.
As Year 10 Coordinator, I am excited about working with the students in this very important time in their educational journey. I am confident that it is going to be a great year, and I look forward to celebrating the students as they grow into young adults.

Year 9 Report
Welcome to the Cooroy Campus, Year 9. I hope that all the students and their families enjoyed the summer holidays, and found the time to reflect on achievements and goals, as well as finding the time to relax, and recharge.
The school year has kicked off, at full steam. The Year 9 students have performed extremely well in their transition to the Cooroy campus demonstrating being responsible, being respectful and being active learners. The year level team is proud of how quickly the students have adapted to their new subjects, teachers, classrooms and class groupings.
It is common for students to experience a degree of apprehension when there is any change of circumstances, and this is why the Year 9-year level team have invested in the transition program at the end of last year. There is a great support team available to the Year 9 students. This team consists of Lee Merrett (Deputy Principal); myself Bernard Weekes Year Level Coordinator (Home groups A, B, C), Head of Year Luke Thompson (Home Groups D, E) And Head of Year Murray Gordon (Home Groups F, G). This team is specifically dedicated to the academic, behavioural and wellbeing needs of the Year 9 cohort. Please feel free to contact the team if you have any concerns or comments.
Uniform in general has been excellent but it is important to reinforce the wearing formal white shirts on Tuesdays, correct footwear and following the P&C guidelines on piercings and jewelry. Wearing non uniform and therefore unsafe shoes, places in jeopardy the completion of subjects that require leather shoes for foot protection in class. Long or large hoop earrings, nose rings and face rings provide a catch hazard and therefore are not allowed. Please ensure all uniform is correct and if there is an issue, please go to T11 to change before school.
Bernard Weekes
Year 8 Report
Welcome to the 2025 academic year at Noosa District State High School! We are excited to have our Year 8 students continue their educational journey at our Pomona Campus. As you embark on this new chapter, we aim to provide a supportive and enriching environment that fosters both academic and personal growth.
As leaders of the Pomona Campus it is our responsibility to model the expectations throughout the school and community. I know that we are well suited for this challenge and our Student Leadership Expressions of Interest are now open.
Our School Leadership Program initiatives allow students to develop and enhance their leadership skills, promoting a positive school culture by leading and promoting participation in whole school events and regular campus specific activities. Students interested in being an important part of our Student Leadership Program are required to register with me at the YLC office or the Home Group teacher.
We look forward to a successful and enriching year ahead with our Year 8 students. Together, let's make 2025 a year of growth, learning, and achievement by trying our best with our learning and being good humans each and every day.

Year 7 Report
We’re off to a fantastic start in Year 7 this term! It has been an action-packed first week, with our Mimburi Farm visit, Berry Street induction lessons, and settling into the general routines of Noosa High.
Starting high school can be a daunting experience for students, but our Junior Secondary Campus provides a gentle and supportive transition into this exciting new chapter.
There’s plenty happening around campus as we move through the term! Lunchtime clubs are also in full swing, offering a wide variety of activities for students to explore—there’s something for everyone!
Student Leadership is a vital part of our school culture, giving students a voice in key events, celebrations, and school initiatives. If your child is interested in joining our Junior Leadership Program, they are encouraged to visit the Year Level Coordinator Office. Leadership is a fantastic way to build confidence, make new friends, and develop a strong sense of school pride.
As we move forward in Year 7 and leave the echoes of primary school behind, communication becomes more important than ever. Please don’t hesitate to reach out—to your child’s teacher, to me, or via email—if you need support or clarification on anything Year 7 related.
Keep smiling, stay curious, and be kind!

This new year brings many opportunities within our school community, including our year 7’s take the first step into their new high school journey, and our year 9’s advancing into the senior Cooroy campus. Students have their first opportunity to showcase their school spirit with our interhouse swimming carnival on Friday of week 2. Can’t wait to see you all there.
Additionally, year 12 has begun to make the most of our final year of schooling, attending a focus day on Tuesday of week 1, where we participated in team building activities and inter-homeroom competitions. This was followed by motivating speeches from Ms Wilmore and Mr Quinn, and a seminar by ‘adolescentoligists’ Michael and Luke, from PEERPOWER.
Year 11 is well underway with their journey through senior schooling, as they begin their chosen subjects for the year. Students have received new timetables, with break and class times now coinciding with the Pomona campus. With student council meetings beginning in week 3, we as leaders look forward to the opportunity to fulfill our responsibilities within the school, as well as in the community through interact and Rotary programs. All leaders from every year are welcome to attend to voice their opinions and provide ideas on improvements and activities within the school.
This week year 7 student leadership nominations were also opened for students wanting to develop their leadership skills throughout their whole high school journey. These will be announced in week 4 this term, when all year 7 to 12 leaders will attend a leadership development day.
This year my main goal as School Captain is to increase school spirit and involvement in inter school activities including sports days, free dress days and fundraisers, as well as cultural events such as our amazing musical, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’
From the Student Council, we hope you have enjoyed your first two weeks of this exciting new year, and we look forward to continuing to support and represent you throughout 2025.

HPE HOD – Welcome
There have been some changes in the HPE Faculties for 2025. Firstly, my HPE Head of Department role will spread across both campuses. Hence, I will overlook the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 12. This will include junior subjects of HPE and senior subjects including PE, Health, Outdoor Recreation, Sport and Recreation and Fitness Cert III. Additionally, the new Sports Co-ordinator – Mr Adam Hoy – will work across both campuses with assistance from a teacher aide at each campus.
We have some other staffing changes with Mr Botha moving from the Pomona campus to facilitate our Outdoor Education programs as he replaced Mr Tait, who has moved interstate for a different career pathway. We also welcome back Mr Tomba, who has been working away for the last few years.
There have been some changes in the Education Queensland space that impact many subjects, particularly HPE and Sport, and these include our specific ‘high risk’ permissions. We please ask all parents to get these links completed as soon as possible so we can engage your child in activities that we see appropriate in our curriculum. Without your permission, your child will be exempt from all ‘high risk’ activities. You have probably received many emails (SchoolZine) already about this.
In our junior curriculum, we will spend this year planning for the new version 9.0 of the Australian curriculum so we can implement in 2026. In our senior curriculum, we welcome back senior PE to challenge our ATAR bound students.
Sport will always continue to be front and centre within our department with multiple North District trials occurring in term 1. The sport calendars have been posted on our website and around the school grounds. We encourage all students and parents to monitor these trials as some sports have district trials and some go directly to regional level. Additionally, staff are busy filling teams for the many inter-school sport competitions that spread across the year. Please assist my busy staff by getting permission forms back asap and payments made to the Finance Department by the due date so students don’t miss out on the many opportunities on offer.
I am sure that it will be another great year in our department.
If you have any questions about the HPE Department at the Cooroy and Pomona campuses, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Sports Coordinator Welcome
To the entire Noosa District School Community, hello and thank you for such a warm welcome! My name is Adam Hoy, and I am the Sport Coordinator for Noosa District SHS for 2025. Similar to the new structure for subject HOD’s my role encompasses all students through grades 7-12 over both Pomona and Cooroy campuses. I agreed to the Sport Co. position late last year after spending the past nine years at James Nash SHS and look forward to what we can achieve in the Sport space throughout 2025!
The Swimming Carnival is already upon us! Scheduled for Friday of Week 3, it will be the first time we have attempted a split school carnival. Years 10-12 will swim throughout Periods 1 and 2 while years 7-9 will compete during periods 3 and 4. A reminder that all students must have their High-Risk permission form signed prior to the carnival in order to enter the pool complex.
The House Captains and Leaders have been filming promo videos, creating posters and practicing war cries in an attempt to gain an early edge in the standings. I can’t wait to see the students and staff out in numbers supporting their respective School House in what is the first of many Interschool events for 2025!
District & Regional Sport Trials begin in Week 3 with permission and information forms already available for collection from the Cooroy HPE staffroom and the office at Pomona. The first round of sports include; softball, rugby league, netball, volleyball, football (soccer), rugby 7’s, water polo and AFL.
Trials come thick and fast throughout Term 1 so teamwork is crucial to ensure our students have the opportunity to participate in their sport/s of choice. We also have school team competitions in volleyball, rugby league and football in the opening weeks of term. Our Open Boys Football team kicks off the year against Good Samaritan on Wednesday night in Round 1 of the Sunshine Coast Schools Soccer competition.
Adam Hoy.

Let’s come together for a night of laughter, generosity, and community spirit!
The School is hosting a Meet and Greet afternoon at Noosa District SHS Pomona Campus on Tuesday, 11th February, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm in our beautiful new Pomona Campus - School Hall. This is a fantastic opportunity for parents and carers to connect with members of the P&C, who will have a pop-up information stand. Learn more about how they support the school, and discover ways to get involved. Whether you’re new to the school or a familiar face, we’d love to see you there for a relaxed afternoon of conversation and community. We look forward to welcoming you!
The P&C are looking for some talented special people to jump on board and help out with making our P&C and school great for our local students. If you think any of the lists on these posters suit the type of person you are and your skills please get in touch with our president Mia Hacker.
AGM is now happening March 25th 2025, we want to get the right people to get the right positions so that we can run smoothly while having fun at the same time. We all want to see the best for our students that are enrolled at our local High School. We have also been looking at having assistant roles to all of the executives to help share the workload so if you're interested in that capacity please do get in touch.
We also have subcommittees that help with ongoing behind the scenes organising. Currently we have a fundraising committee and a uniform committee that sit within our main committee.
The P&C meets after hours from around 5 pm to 6:30 p.m. and usually once a month, generally at the Cooroy Campus in Undercroft Meeting Room.
If you have any treasury skills we're definitely keen to find someone who can help out in that role next year. Do you know someone that might be a retired bookkeeper or an accountant, our committee is more than just our parents of our school community?
The P&C is responsible for the supporting the school providing our School Canteen at both Pomona and Cooroy campuses and supply of school uniforms including the Uniform Shop with all profits being directed back to support the school as a whole. Previously the P&C have generously donated these funds towards the purchase of toilet block facilities at Mimburi, Toyota HiAce 12-seater mini bus and air-conditioning at Cooroy and Pomona Campuses. Your P&C Association is comprised of a small number of parents who choose to contribute two hours a meeting to benefit the students at Noosa District State High School. The more people involved the merrier, all parents are welcome, and encouraged, to attend.

Positive Student Wellbeing Program – The Learning Curve
Parent and Student Support
As part of our NDSHS student wellbeing program, all students utilise their student planner that incorporates a program called The Learning Curve. These student planners are specialised for Junior Secondary (Years 7-9) and Senior Secondary (Years 10-12).
The learning curve materials form the basis of our school student wellbeing program with a large range of student planning activities within the diary and online learning tools. The intention is that students use the material in the diary for their organisational needs and also access online a large range of useful habit of mind and values for life materials that support a positive learning model for our students. To find out more about this great program click on this video link: The Learning Curve
Our agreement with The Learning Curve allows parents, students and teachers full access to a wide range of useful resources to support student growth and wellbeing. Below is an overview of the weekly program for Term 1:
With parent and teacher support, students will develop a range of skills related to study techniques, thinking skills, habits of mind, emotional intelligence, relationships and lifelong learning skills. Students in years 7 to 12 will be expected to bring their student planner every lesson and parents are encouraged to utilise the planner as another layer of school involvement and interaction.
We would urge you to log on and explore the student and parent resources with the details below.

Read MoreThe Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation (AASCF) has for 20 years been providing Cheer and Dance events around Australia, aimed at empowering athletes to partake in this all-inclusive sport, regardless of age, gender, sexual preference, or size.
We now have an amazing opportunity to deliver Dance workshops to dancers aged 16 years and older, presented by the NFL LA Rams Cheerleaders, creating an elite athlete pathway to professional performance sport in the United States.
Our aim is to provide this opportunity to all aspiring dancers across the country.
This is an exceptional opportunity for Australian dancers given the recent announcement that the NFL will be expanding their locations outside of the USA by bringing teams to Australia to play an in-season game, the LA Rams being one of those teams.
