ur Commitment to Excellence
At Noosa District SHS, our Improvement Agenda remains focused on ensuring every student succeeds through excellence in curriculum, teaching, and learning. This commitment drives our daily work in every classroom. Central to this is the strong partnership between school and families, and the careful planning of pathways for each child. We foster a culture of high expectations, supported by aspiration and continuous improvement—no matter what. Thank you for your ongoing support, especially in upholding our core expectations of Active Learning, Respect, and Responsibility. These values shape our positive school culture and begin with consistent attendance, pride in our uniform, and a commitment to learning every day.
Celebrating Academic Success
Student progress and commitment to ongoing improvement is supported this term through our Semester reports for Years 7-12. We have some excellent results from semester 1 that include significant gains in A and B academic results as well as some very positive behaviour results.
Over 100 students will receive commendation letters for academic excellence, and those achieving a GPA in the 95th percentile will be honoured at our upcoming Academic Morning Tea with the Principal. Congratulations to all students for your hard work and achievements!
Campus Life and Engagement
Both campuses are buzzing with lunchtime activities and a packed academic and extra-curricular calendar for Term 3. We encourage all students to get involved and make the most of their high school experience. Stay connected through our Facebook page for regular updates and celebrations.

These efforts have led to strong student engagement and high standards of discipline.
Please take a moment to complete the survey during the official administration period: 28 July – 22 August 2025. Your feedback is highly valued and helps us continue to grow.
In the meantime, we welcome your input via our 2025 Positive Gossip Parents and Community Survey 2025 Semester 1 Parent and Community Survey

Pathways and Careers Expo – Launching 2026 Subject Selection

This expo is designed to support students and families in making informed decisions about future study and career options. With representatives from universities, TAFE, industry, and training providers, students will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of possibilities and ask questions about their next steps. We encourage all families to attend and engage with the resources available, as this marks an important milestone in planning for success beyond school. Subject selection information for 2026 will also be released at this event, helping students align their choices with their goals and aspirations.
Musical Production – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Junior Secondary Campus Context …
A Unique Place to Learn, Grow and Fly
At Noosa District SHS's Junior Secondary Campus, we’re proud to provide a one-of-a-kind educational environment where every student is known, valued and challenged to do their best. The first half of 2025 has flown by, and we’re excited to share some highlights from our vibrant Pomona campus.
Semester 1 school reports were sent home at the end of Week 1, offering students and families a clear picture of progress so far this year. The results are certainly something to celebrate:
- 91% of students achieved a C or better in their academic subjects
- 55% achieved an A or B
- 94% reached a C or above for behaviour, and
- 93% did the same for effort
These results reflect the strength of our learning culture and the commitment our students show every day to being responsible, respectful and active learners. In their FLYING lessons, students are now using their reports to set personal learning goals for Semester 2.
Every Day Counts
As we enter the second half of the year, we’re reinforcing the importance of attendance. Attendance is more than just being present, it’s about making the most of every learning opportunity. Did you know a student with 90% attendance misses:
- 1 day every fortnight
- 1 week every term
- 4 weeks every year
That’s why we’re encouraging students to get organised: use their assessment planners, set reminders, and communicate early about due dates.
Sitting down with your child to look over their upcoming assessments is a great way to stay connected and support success.
Year 8 Gearing Up for the Next Big Step
It may feel like they only just started high school, but our Year 8 students are already beginning the exciting transition to our Cooroy Campus in 2026. Over the coming weeks, they’ll explore subject choices, visit the senior campus, and connect with students who’ve already made the move.
One of the highlights is our Week 0 Transition Week, where Year 8 students will spend time at the Cooroy Campus following their Year 9 timetable, getting a feel for what lies ahead and building confidence for the journey.
FLYING into New Opportunities
With new timetables in hand, students have now launched into their Semester 2 electives exploring subjects like Drama, Music, Visual Art, Design, and more. Thursday’s FLYING+ classes are another favourite, offering hands-on, creative programs that tap into general capabilities like problem-solving, critical thinking and collaboration.
Our FLYING philosophy doesn’t just apply to current students — it’s also something we proudly introduce to our future learners. Last term, while our Year 7s and 8s were winning in their house colours at the Athletics Carnival on the Cooroy Campus, our Pomona campus hosted Year 6 students for a high energy transition day. With exciting science experiments, tasty cooking lessons, and practical workshops, these students got a real taste of life at NDSHS and they had a great time. We can’t wait to welcome them back later in Term 4.
Subject Expo – Save the Date
To support the transition to Year 9, our Subject Information Expo will be held on Tuesday 29 July at the Cooroy Campus. We strongly encourage all Year 8 families to come along, speak with teachers, explore subject offerings, and hear tips on navigating the move to senior schooling. There will be a Year 8 into 9 parent and student information session beginning at 4:30pm for interested families. Subject Selection Forms will follow shortly after the event, with students completing these with support from their FLYING teachers.
Thank You for a Great Start to Term 3
Term 3 is off to a flying start thanks to the incredible efforts of our students, the support of families, and the dedication of our staff. Together, we’re creating a campus culture where students thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
We are proud to offer a junior secondary experience like no other, one that’s built on care, high expectations and the belief that every student can succeed.
Kind regards,
Josh Cleary

Year 11 Report
Welcome back to our Class of 2026 and families. I hope you all had a wonderful mid-year break and are ready for a big term ahead. The Year 11s have started Term 3 in a really positive way, with excellent application to school work and an upbeat and outgoing vibe in the playground. This time of year is always busy, with Unit 2 coursework continuing and assessment looming as well as a number of big school events keeping everyone busy.
The 7th, 8th and 9th of August will see our school musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory hit the stage after months of rehearsals and mountains of work behind the scenes. A number of our talented Year 11 students will grace the stage, and it has been an fantastic to see the talent and dedication of these students as they manage this massive commitment on top of coursework, assessment, work and extra-curricular activities. Our musicals are of the highest quality, and the work of Ms Louize Lyle and Mrs Sharon Harris never fails to disappoint, so make sure you get your tickets on trybooking.com and come and see members of the class of 2026 up in lights.
Another exciting opportunity is also on the horizon for our Year 11 students. Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be talking to students in class and on parade about Year 12 executive leadership opportunities, including school captaincy and vice captaincy, student council leadership and sports and house captaincy opportunities for 2026. We already have an excellent selection of year 11 student leaders, and no doubt we will have an outstanding Year 12 leadership team once this process if finalised. I strongly encourage any Year 11 student who wants to contribute to a brilliant final year of schooling to apply for student leadership. The opportunity to work in a high performing team will equip students with valuable skills for future success.
As we navigate Term 3, Year 11 students are also completing their final Year 11 coursework. When they return for Term 4, they will begin year 12 coursework that will culminate next year with formal, external exams and graduation in November of 2026. Time flies! I encourage all students to continue working hard to achieve your goals, to support each other through the challenges you will inevitably face, and to look to the future with a sense of ambition and optimism. Year 11s, you’re shaping up as a top cohort, so be sure to live your best version of yourself each day. If you do, your success will follow.

Year 10 Report
Welcome to Term 3—a pivotal time in the school year as we shift our focus to career exploration and senior subject selection. This week, our Year 10 students will attend the Careers Expo, where they will have the opportunity to engage with a wide range of exhibitors and begin forming meaningful connections that will help shape their future pathways.
In Week 3, we are pleased to invite all parents and students to our Pathways and Careers Expo, an important event designed to showcase the diverse subject offerings available in senior schooling. We are fortunate to work with an outstanding group of students, many of whom are enthusiastic and motivated as they prepare to enter the senior phase of their education.
To support students through this process, Ms Seaniger has already met with the cohort to unpack key terminology and guide them through the many choices ahead. She brings a wealth of knowledge and will be presenting alongside Ms Riley, Head of Department for Senior Schooling, at the Subject Selection Expo on Wednesday, 26 July. We strongly encourage all families to prioritise this date—it’s a valuable opportunity to meet with subject teachers, ask questions, and gather the information needed to make informed decisions.
Also in attendance will be Ms Tara Pitt, our Industry Liaison Officer, who will be available to speak with families interested in school-based apprenticeships and traineeships.
At the end of last term, students submitted initial subject preferences for their senior years. These selections are not final; rather, they will serve as a foundation for SET Planning, which will take place in Week 10 of this term. Please ensure you take the time to read through the Subject Selection Handbook, as it is an essential tool during this planning phase.
Term 3 is traditionally a time of significant growth for our Year 10 students, and already, we are seeing the beginnings of this transformation. It is a pleasure to witness them developing into respectful, thoughtful, and engaged young adults.

Year 9 Report
Welcome back to semester 2. I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing and refreshing break. Year 9 's have been issued with a new timetable in home group, if there are any issues please contact the HOY.
The cooler weather is continuing and that usually means that some students appear with an array of jumpers, long shirts, and visible shirts underneath the uniform. I would like to remind parents that the uniform shop stocks school jumpers and jackets for the colder months. By ensuring students wear the school uniform, we are promoting:
- A safe environment for learning by enabling ready identification of students and non-students at the school
- Community values, expectations and perceptions of the school
- A sense of personal pride in the school
- The dress standards and requirements of a workplace
Please assist us in upholding and supporting the school uniform policy by ensuring your child arrives to school in the correct uniform. If a student requires a temporary item of school clothing it can be borrowed from student services located in T11.
Many thanks
Bernard Weekes
Year 7 & 8 Report
We’re Over Halfway Through the School Year!
It’s been fantastic to see our Year 7 and 8 students continuing to grow and thrive at Pomona. Six months can make a big difference in a teenager’s life!
A big thank you to families for supporting our uniform expectations—it’s great to see students looking proud in their uniforms. Please continue to ensure your child wears the correct all-black shoes and avoids undershirts. If your child needs a jumper, school jumpers are available to borrow on cold days.
Report cards have recently been sent out and provide a great opportunity to sit down with your child to celebrate achievements and set goals for the rest of the year. Overall, results were very positive, with many students achieving great outcomes—not only academically, but also in behaviour and effort.
Coming up this term: Book Week celebrations, the school musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, interschool sport, and a student-free day—it’s a massive term ahead!
Thank you for your continued support. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at cfell0@eq.edu.au if I can support you or your child in any way.

As we cross the halfway point of this school year, students are as busy as ever, working hard on school events alongside their studies.
At the end of last term our Athletics carnival went ahead, with students from all year levels dressing up and competing for their house. House colours were on full display and competition was fierce. It was great to see so many athletes competing and we eagerly await the results of the winning house. We can now look forward to the Districts athletic carnival where students will go to represent Noosa District against other schools.
In the first week back Noosa District celebrated NAIDOC week, recognising the culture and history of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander peoples. Indigenous leaders Laciee Wells and Billie Madden alongside other indigenous students attended Sunshine Beach SHS commemorative NAIDOC day to take part in cultural activities. A morning tea was also shared at school for future developments such as the yarning circle to be discussed.
Our Pomona Campus Japanese students are eagerly waiting for another study tour, commencing in week 3, where students travel all the way from Japan to stay and study with a buddy.
On the academic front, the workload is heating up as year 11 head towards another exam block in week 10, and the beginning of their unit 3 of schooling, while year 12 sets to complete their final full turn of school.
Finally, this years exciting musical Willy Wonka is only weeks away, with performers participating in a musical camp at the end of week 1 to ramp up their rehearsals. Students have been working hard behind the scenes—rehearsing lines, perfecting choreography, and bringing the magical world of Wonka’s chocolate factory to life. From colourful costumes to catchy musical numbers, this production promises to be a delightful and entertaining experience for all. Be sure to mark your calendars and come along to support the incredible talent and effort of everyone involved!
On behalf of the student council, we would like to welcome everyone back and wish you all the best for the term ahead.

Term 2 AFL Recap
Term 2 was a huge one for AFL across the senior levels at NDSHS, with growing interest and enthusiasm from students of all experience levels. Our school proudly entered multiple competitions throughout the term, with both boys’ and girls’ teams taking the field and representing Noosa District with pride.
One standout event was the QSchools AFL Gala Day, where we entered teams in both divisions. It was fantastic to see so many students stepping up to give AFL a go, many for the first time. Our more experienced players led by example, showing great leadership and helping to build confidence and teamwork across the board.
Across all competitions, our students demonstrated sportsmanship, resilience, and a real sense of school spirit. It’s clear that AFL is on the rise at NDSHS, and we’re proud of every student who pulled on the jersey this term.
Whether playing, supporting from the sidelines, coaching, or snapping photos, it’s been great to see such a strong and positive culture growing around AFL at our school.

NDSHS siblings striving for success in the USA
It is always great to hear successful alumni stories. The Hamilton siblings were always keen on sport whilst at school in their roles as Sport Captains – over two consecutive years; however, it is their tennis skills that have taken them across the Pacific Ocean to flourish whilst studying at the University of Tennessee – Southern campus. Ali graduated from NDSHS in 2023 and more recently, her brother Brock graduated in 2024. The talented siblings were certainly well spoilt in the tennis arena with a tennis court at home and this saturation has certainly helped them achieve their goals of studying in the USA on tennis scholarships.
After Ali finished her gap year and Brock finished school, they both headed over to a small town called Pulaski, about 90 minutes south of Nashville. They both started as freshmans studying their courses and representing the University of Tennessee – Southern campus in their respective tennis teams. Ali is studying HPE teaching and Brock is studying Exercise Science and they both live on campus in the college accommodation. Both students stated that they certainly felt up to date with the uni standards with the other students thanks to their education from NDSHS.
Both Ali and Brock felt that their tennis skills were also at the standard needed for the inter-university tennis tournaments each week. At times, they can travel up to 8 hours to play around the southern states and the many university competitions on the weekends. During the week, they have approximately 16 uni lessons (mostly face to face lessons) and tennis fitness, gym and skills training throughout the week. Ali’s team had a mixed year of success, but Brock’s team won the national tournament in their division for the first time in their uni’s history.
Both siblings are currently home for their ‘summer break’ to catch up with their local friends, before heading back to the USA for the next semester starting in early August. We wish Ali and Brock the best of luck in their studies and tennis careers and it is great to hear that their experiences at NDSHS have set them up for great successes in the education and sporting fields whilst overseas.

Making Waves in Water Polo – Elroy Savege Shines!
Congratulations to Elroy Savege on a sensational year in Water Polo!
Elroy has had a standout season, kicking off with a stellar performance at the State Championships held on the Gold Coast in April, where he and his Noosa team secured a silver medal. His impressive skills and commitment in the pool didn’t go unnoticed, earning him a spot to represent Queensland in the prestigious Under 13 National Development Competition in Hobart, Tasmania.
Elroy was selected as one of the few to join three QLD teams invited to the national tournament, where his team finished second on the ladder in a high-calibre and fiercely contested event.
We are incredibly proud of Elroy’s achievements, his determination, and the great sportsmanship he displays both in and out of the water. He continues to be a role model for young athletes in our school community.
We look forward to cheering him on once again as he represents Good Shepherd in their upcoming Water Polo competition.
Well done, Elroy – you’re making a real splash!

Year 9/10 Girls Rugby League – Karyn Murphy Cup District Finals
Our Year 9/10 Girls rugby league team represented the school with distinction at the Karyn Murphy Cup District Finals held yesterday at Nirimba Sports Complex. The KMC is a state-wide competition, with top teams progressing through each stage.
Our girls impressed at district level, finishing top of their pool to earn a spot in the finals against Deception Bay, who, going into the final were undefeated. The final was a fiercely contested match, with Deception Bay striking first through a powerful attacking set. Undeterred, our girls responded with a stunning near length-of-the-field try to Xanthe Millington, assissted by Tillie Meredith.
Trailing 2–1 at halftime, the team came out with renewed energy, scoring in the opening set of the second half. A controversial moment denied us a key try-scoring opportunity, which went uncalled, and Deception Bay capitalised soon after to seal a narrow 3–2 win.
Despite the loss, the team's effort, resilience and sportsmanship were outstanding. They finish the season as one of the top four teams on the Sunshine Coast — an incredible achievement. Congratulations to all players and coaches on a fantastic campaign!

Year 11 Aquatic Practices Students Dive into Marine Careers and Boating Safety
Our Year 11 Aquatic Practices class recently had the opportunity to engage with industry professionals during a special visit from Maritime Safety Queensland and the Water Police. The session provided a valuable mix of practical demonstrations and career insights, all aimed at deepening students' understanding of both the marine industry and safe boating practices.
The visit included a live demonstration of emergency marine equipment. Students watched in as red and orange flares were ignited, giving them first-hand experience of how these vital distress signals work in real-life situations. The class also had the chance to inflate an inflatable lifejacket. These demonstrations were not only engaging but also reinforced the importance of preparation and safety when boating.
In addition to the hands-on learning, students had the chance to speak directly with Maritime Safety Queensland officers and Water Police about the wide range of career opportunities available in the marine industry. From law enforcement and maritime safety to environmental monitoring and vessel operations, students were encouraged to explore pathways that align with their interests and skills.
This visit was an invaluable extension of our aquatic curriculum, giving students practical exposure to the responsibilities and rewards of working on the water. A big thank you to Maritime Safety Queensland and the Water Police for their time, knowledge, and dedication to educating the next generation of safe and informed marine users.

Past donation of funds by the P&C have gone towards the purchase of toilet block facilities at Mimburi, Toyota HiAce 12-seater mini bus and air-conditioning at Cooroy and Pomona Campuses.
Volunteering
Our Tuckshop welcomes volunteers at both campuses. If you have time to spare in your week we would love it if you would consider investing some time into our school community. All volunteers need to have a Blue Card which is free to apply for online and to be fully vaccinated.
If you are interested in supporting the school through the P&C as a volunteer including the NEW “Work for the Dole” option with centrelink and Services Australia, email PandCSecretary@noosadistrictshs.eq.edu.au to discuss Blue Card and training aspects required.

Flexischools App for Purchasing Food and Uniforms
Noosa District SHS will be using Flexischools for parents to place lunch orders and make over-the-counter purchases at our school. Australia's #1 school ordering solution, Flexischools, operates in more than 1700 schools across Australia, enabling parents and students to order and pay for school lunches, uniform shop items, and school community events online or via the Flexischools app.
Flexi schools will be the place to order our pre-loved uniforms and new jackets, hats and ties while new stock lasts. Other items are available through School Locker.
Flexischools App
Parents simply download the Flexischools app from the Apple or Google store and follow the prompts to create an account. You can download the App and find registration and online ordering instructions here.
Parents can set daily spend limits and keep an eye on what they’re buying via your Flexischools app. Additionally, you can also add access for your child to use the App, enabling them to place online orders themselves - great for growing independence.
If you already have a Flexischools account for another family member then just select the Profile icon on the app and +Add New Student.
Student Cards
Students will be able to make over-the-counter canteen purchases with their existing student ID card by linking their card to their profile in the Flexischools App.
Here’s how to link your child’s student card to your Flexischools account for cash-free spending at school.
- Register a Flexischools account and create a student
- Select: Noosa District State High School from the drop down list
- Under Settings, enter the Student ID number located on the front of your student card
